wile the large pile of stuff i got, i found a set of cb750 carbs, noice!

had them completely apart, run the the ultrasonic cleaner, and assembled in around 2 hours, mostly waiting on the ultrasonic cleaner and scrubbing... such simple carbs...

and now they're on my xj... yep

had to modify some stuff, the throttle cable mount will have to mount to a bolt on the valve cover, as these carbs are REALLY close to the motor.

anyways with no pods and my practically open exhaust i have my old 124 mains in them, but right off idle its running really rich, so ill have to move the clip on the needle, thinking about trying 120 jets if i can find the stock ones again..

anyways, ill get it tuned shortly, even though it ran fine before, i just had to try it. and now i can run me some velocity stacks, or bread box, my world for carb accessories is now wide open. actually, you can run a drouin supercharger on these bikes if the boots line up, which they do, or webber carbs, or cycle x 2 into ones,.

you're welcome xj community, video and pictures coming soon

I wouldn't go calling it "bonafide" until you've ridden the bike that's equipped with them for a few miles, and have seen how it runs under load and at various RPMs. And can then check the plugs, etc.

Starting it and revving it up in the barn doesn't validate the solution fully. Yes, it runs. But will it pull? Does it run well under load?

Get back to us once you've had a chance to ride it. On a paved road, at over 40mph, and for more than 3 miles.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea. But it's far from "proven."

They are really easy to work on for sure. Well if you could hear it the intake noise when you crack the throttle is loud. Your gas mileage will drop. And throttle response wont be as good when you grab a handfull of throttle. But you wont have to worry about your diaphragms going bad in your carbs. And we know how you like to alter your bike. I really think your trying to turn it into a honda on a subconscious level lol

It won't work. Been trying it for three days! Also been giving the dogs lots of water so they have to pee more often, that's not melting the snow any faster either! Looking for the blowtorch now.....

dunno bout you, Fitz but i have about 400 miles on this year. As soon as the roads were clear enough and we were above 32, I was going, legally.

    Thanks for the concern

It's a tough crowd when you bring something new or inovative to the table. If you think about though, it should be.

The guys are razing you just for fun just cause you're a valued member here but it's the tough questions that really help prove a concept and I think all of the guys here WANT your idea to work, but most know the pitfalls and will challenge you to be sure that there aren't unwanted comprimises to be made in the process.

Fitz is right about something appearing to run great in the garage but falling flat on it's face when you ease the clutch out....been there many, many times<LOL>

Don't give up though and good luck getting it all sorted!!

I wouldnt be wasting my time replacing cv carbs with more cv carbs, the rider lifts up the slides on these carbs.

in 77 and 78 honda even had a better performing version of these carbs, called keyhole carbs, with an accelerator pump that shot it an extra bit of fuel everytime you lifted the slides so you dont starve out the engine like you can with these.

and i just found out i even have a set of those keyhole carbs with my pile of stuff i got

if your xj1100 carbs line up with xj750 carbs, or just take your xj1100 carbs or a spare rack and line them up with the junk yard bike, you'll see, if they're the same as mine 3 carbs will line up exactly with about 5 mm off set on the last one.

and then there's modifications you have to make to the cb750 carb mounting stuff.. you should see what i mean when you try, i made it work with a hack saw and bench grinder

ok, this weekend i got everything bolted up and throttle cable mounted, found out these carbs DO NOT like to run a cold engine.. so about 5 minutes of idling later, she runs pretty good, seems to be some top end stutter BUT im really low on fuel in my tank and cant find the key to my cap (chit) I want to get it really warmed up and see how it performs and do a plug chop.

i also need to get some filters on.. but i absolutely wont use pods... so im having a custom airbox made
    http://www.steeldragonperformance.com/air_boxes_7.html

he can make them for xj's or any bike... they're really nice ive seen one in person.

now with this excellent michigan weather i can only wait.. went to a swap meet today too, got some nice goodies

well, kinda, with any bike, your knees will take the wind at arou nd 60 mph and channel it into your outside pods and make those cylinders run really lean
