    Hi there.

So I've been searching for the average heat produced by a 1981 xj650 maxim exhaust..basically how hot does the pipes get. I am aware of environmental factors but I am looking for atleast a range starting from when the pipes are warm to a good 2 hr slow easy ride later.

    The reason...
There is a custom slip on that has a hole in it fairly small still runs fine, once its warmed up lol, and am looking for a.temporary quick fix. Welding is an option but id rather avoid any more. I have heard of j.b. weld that is perfect to 600deg and liquid steel.. liquid steel im not sure of the heat tolerance... I doubt 600deg is enough but I could be wrong...

    Thanks in advance

I've temporarily fixed ( held for 6 years) a rotten hole in a 84 venture using that stuff that looks like plasticine and you mix it up until it changes colour then you put it on. Then you can file off what you don't want. It never broke or chipped and didn't come off. Heck it might still be on the bike with the new owner. - Rick

I fixed a hole in a header in one of my hotrods with jb weld and never had a problem.

You guys have had better luck than me with that stuff then. I used it to patch a hole in the end of the muffler on my other bike (no, not the one that s suppose to be there!). It lasted about 1 week before cracking and flaking off. I had even used small wire mesh to give it more strength and my prep work was extensive.
