what could cause bluing on the tips of slashcut tailpipes? are they possibly just cheaply made or chromed or could there be something wrong with bike?

There's a product called "blue-away" I think that might help take it off. I think it's just what chrome does with age. I'm sure someone on here can elaborate and give you some good input about that condition though. Are they aftermarket?

Yes, they are aftermarket, but not sure what brand they are. I will look for the 'blue away' and try it. Thanks.

    Chrome turns blue from heat.

Yamaha exhaust systems are double-walled, so the chrome stays pretty.

Single-walled chrome stuff will turn blue in direct response to heat; if your slash-cuts are only blueing at the edges, I would say it's a factor of the thinness of the metal or its chrome; and/or a result of the slash-cut somehow "concentrating" the heat right at the outlet.

Unless you're running super lean, I don't see how how the bike itself could be causing it.

I'm familiar with "blue-away" and it's probably not going to do any good in this particular application (muffler outlet.)

I noticed this stuff on the shelf of a local shop the other day:
    http://www.kreem.com/blueshield.html

No idea whether it works or not, or if it would work for this, but it claims to prevent bluing rather than fix it like blue-away... so there it is.
