    You finally have a part for your bike that does not need meticulious restoration.
    I bet the carbs on you Seca look better than that.

    Wrong and right. It DOES need work, I went with option (D) and it's apart. Would have pics but it's gonna be 59F today and the black bike has its license tag. Anyway, all the brass stuff is starting to corrode, so it will need some work. On the upside, everything is pretty much brand new. However, it appears to have been a trade-school "practice" carb. There're some interesting scars and bends that wouldn't be there if it hadn't been apart before. (It only set me back $25, I think it was worth it.)

    Right, the carbs on my '83 do look better than that. And I'm about to rebuild my "good-spare" rack and swap it onto the '81. But I'm gonna do the 650s carbs first.

    I figured there might be some members who'd like an exploded view of a Mikuni, and how to get it that way.

    What....no chrome top hat on it?
    You could get the dremel out and polish it for a couple hundred hours although the metal they used doesn't really polish out that well.

    a) Use if for "Show & Tell"

    b) Keep it. (Then, you'll NEVER need it.)

    c) Sell it, ... for a handsome profit! (You'll NEED it before it arrives to the buyer!!!)

    Actually, there are a couple of issues with the picture, which is otherwise a great learning tool:

    a) The pilot AIR jet (the physical part) is missing from the actual parts display, AND, on some versions of the Mikuni carbs (XJ550 and XJ650 Turbo), is located under the vac piston diaphram (instead of in carb throat plenum, which is the way the written diagram is laid out in the this picture):

    .

    b) What is shown (the physical part) as the "pilot air jet" (the horizontally-oriented parts in the airbox-facing throat opening of the carb) is actually the pilot FUEL jet, and this pilot fuel jet should be aligned vertically, sticking up into the bottom of the carb body, just forward of the emulsion tube, in the position labelled "pilot jet".

    Currently, what is physically shown as the "pilot (fuel) jet" is actually a main FUEL jet (or, it could be a pilot AIR jet, they look very similar to each other on the Mikuni carbs), and......

    c) The main fuel jet actually screws into the bottom of the emulsion tube......and, there is a flat brass washer that goes in-between the bottom of the emulsion tube and the main fuel jet.

    d) The pilot "AIR" jet, regardless of it's actual location (see part "a" above), looks just like the main fuel jet, e.g. it's a mushroom-headed short, stubby jet, not the long slender type (which is a pilot FUEL jet).

    e) Finally, to be as anally-retentively correct as possible 8O , the vac piston assembly and the main jet NEEDLE assembly would be pictured, too....

    Of course, to be truly correct, such needle assembly would need to feature the multi-position adjustable style needle as used on the 1984 BS35 series carbs (XJ900RL) and all of the BS36 series carbs (1985-later XJ900 models), since all other Hitachi and Mikuni carbs --- including the 1983 BS35 series carbs used on the XJ9000RK models --- featured a single-position, non-adjustable factory main jet needle:

    HCP15792 Aftermarket Mikuni main jet NEEDLE, variable-position 5-groove version is correct for all XJ900RL model carbs (BS35 series), but will also work on the XJ900RK models as a replacement for the original single-position needle. This needle is equivalent to the factory 4HZ26 needle. Use 1 per carb. Ring cap, c-clip, spring, and spring seat washer are not included. Each:
    $ 19.95

    HCP15790 Aftermarket Mikuni main jet NEEDLE, variable-position 5-groove version is correct for all 1985-1990 XJ900 N, FN, and F models carbs (BS36 series). This needle is equivalent to the factory 5FZ62 needle. Use 1 per carb. Ring cap, c-clip, spring, and spring seat washer are not included. Each:
    $ 19.95

    The Pilot Jet and Air Jets are swapped.

    The Float Valve & Needle are up-side down.

    The Emulsion Tube is Up-side Down.

    Needle ??

    Missing Main Fuel jet and Washer.

    The biggest problem with that carb Fitz is that there's not a pod on it. :lol:

    Yep, Wiz's exploded view is a case of "what's wrong with this picture?"

    Rick nailed most of them, as did Len.

    What I'm doing is taking a series of photos, and I'll label one to correspond with the breakdown in the book.

    Stay tuned.

    It's a #2 carb. The "inners" had 'natural' hats, only chrome hats on #1 and #4.

    I hate to be the one to say it's not the museum piece that some may think that it is. The BS28 is the STOCK carb for a 2007 Kaw 125cc Eliminator....not very rare.

    LOL.........it is funny though that as soon as a lot of people see "BS" they think it's special. I almost didn't even want to put this post up cause I know I'm being a buzz-killer.

    Sorry guys, but I can't view pics here at work so I'm only going by what the carb model since I can't view any pics that might be posted.

    Kawasaki uses a completely different version of a BS28 carb.........not interchangable at all.

    It's a Mikuni off a 550;

    Twarn't supposed to be a museum piece; and the popular response is what I expected; most of you want to see the guts.

    Which is what I figured; the photography is pretty much done, now all I need to do is edit the pics and put it all up.
