taken from the yamaha web site for an 83 xj550k or xj550rk:

cold intake valve clearance 0.11 to 0.15mm
cold exhaust valve clearance 0.16 to 0.20mm

    goodluck!

    Thanks guys

My son and I have just finished (5mins ago) doing the head on his Ninja, the Maxim looks a bit easier to get at without all that electronic junk his carries around with it

    hi woot,

Its a zx6rj1 600cc 4cyl watercooled twin ohc shims under valve buckets, revs at 14700rpm, top speed achieved 155mph. But although its ok for half an our, my arms begin to ache. (old git) I like cruising at 60mph on my maxim :D

:) I had a zx600r C8 for awhile... nice bike. I'm tempted by the Canadian ZZR 600 ( we get the older zzr, not the zx6r sold as a zzr you get)... although I'm more tempted by the ninja 650 (er-6s) and moreso by the vfr... although my bike budget went into car parts today :-/

Then again - I really like the zzr1200... I didn't until I spent 4 hours in northern maine bored stiff on an empty road... it's that type of ride that I feel bad for the maxim on ( revving high for hours) and that type of ride that the speed king would help shorten ;)

It is shim under bucket - hrm - not as I expected... I thought most of them were locknut and screw adjusted... certainly the ex250 and zx600r were... must be a strength trade off?

Anyhow - happy wrenching in your cold clime'

    Cheers,
    woot.
