speedometer issue any suggestions????

    So I decided to mount a small handlebars speedometer ( Drag Speedometer) on my 82 xj650 . While driving the bike im this morning I happened to look down and the speedometer said I was doing 120 ???( no way!)
    The cable and speedometer are new.
    The speedometer at the bottom reads 1000 rpms 60 mph
    How can I fix this problem ???
    any suggestions would be a great help :(

    is the speedo adjustable? If not then you have the wrong one. The XJ's speedo runs at a ratio of, IIRC, 2240rpms=60mph. If your speedo is geared for 1000rpm=60mph it will read almost 2X fast.
