Any AMA members here? Wondering what you think and if it's worth joining.

Nothing speaks louder then silence......and my guess is the majority of members who saw this thread feel as I do which is why no one responded to it.

I used to belong only as it was a requirement to race, or at least looked favorably if you were a member. These days though, I'm in disagreement on many positions so for me, no, theres no reason to join.
They provide small discounts to certain services but nothing greater then a bit of shopping will get you.

I agree with JeffK. Their focus runs a little wide of what I think is important. I may have to join though as it cuts the cost of admission to some BMW events by 1/2. Which sucks! Screw it. I ain't gonna join!

I usually go over to the Brookfield, NY show each summer since it's in my backyard. Each year it gets smaller and smaller, w/ less vendors. Many of the parts are rusty junk. The few bikes that are in the show competition are nice, but often primarily fifties Indians, british bikes, and such. I'm not planning to join any time soon.

I must say that my bikes do attract a lot of attention when I ride in though!

I wouldn't avoid the events they sponsor though, unlike what Hog has seen, the AMA Vintage days @ Mid-Ohio has to be one of the best vintage venues I've ever attended. I rode out there in '09 for the first time and throughly enjoyed the entire weekend. Vintage racing where you can stand right over the pits and watch or talk with the guys, acres of swapmeet booths, shows, demonstrations, factory rides....it was a blast and it gave me the chance to make some new friends with some riders of the same bike I rode out. I'm planning on going out again this year.
