    Hey all,

New here, I just found the forum and had a question that may or may not be all that important but it was something that i am wondering after riding for my first year last year. I have a XJ650 that i love, however with my leg length after awhile it becomes a little cramped, are there highway pegs that are available that are easy to mount, and also, anyone who may use highway pegs on their XJ, does it make a difference in the comfort for longer rides?

I won't ride without highway pegs on mine (750 Seca) There are alot of aftermarket highway peg setups that will bolt right up to the front engine mounts. Infact, after my chopper project started, I have completely elliminated the stock foot pegs and levers and made forward controls for my scoot. I cna't see how I put up with the stock riding position for so long. Some seem to like the upright seating position or leaning forward, but not me. It's a personal preference how you sit while riding. After owning another cruiser (VT1100 Shadow) I am acustom to that kinda seating position now and won't go back. You may want to look at Dennis Kirk or JC Whitney for your bike. You should find what your looking for at both of those sites. Good luck! >PD<

I've got a set mounted on my engine guards, and love them.
I find though that any position will get cramped after about an hour or two - so I rotate between the standard position, to an upright position with my legs tucked under and feet on the passenger footpegs (sounds cramped, but it's surprisingly comfortable), to laid back legs forward position on the highway pegs -- gives me lots of variability.

I had a set on the bike when I bought it, they look stock (says yamaha on them). I love them, a good change from standard, a little chilly up the leg when it gets colder out. My brother hated them when he took it for a ride though, so its all preference.

Yup, used a set of universal highway bars on my xj550. It was a little tough getting 'em on, had to temporarily remove the exhaust...took about an hour or so...but well worth the pain - :D

Is your XJ a Maxim or Seca? I have a set on my Seca. But they seem to be better suited to cruisers like the Maxim, than standards like the Seca. With my Seca, you can't really extend your legs like you traditionally see with highway pegs. I guess if you mounted them on one of the case guards that mounts to the down tubes instead of the side of the frame, you could an extra inch or two of leg extension, but not like you see on a cruiser.

Mine is the xj650 Maxim, which is why i was thinking of putting them on since i do have the crash guards there to mount them to, i just didnt know if using universals were the way to go or if there were stock ones that could be gotten that would be better.

See now thats what i want to do also on my 550, but i want to get the engine guards first then the highway pegs..

but i'm just having a difficult time finding engine guards that would fit my bike, and are in my price range (being in the military you don't get paid all that well!!)

Anything you do on these bikes takes at least an hour :D.
Took me that long to change out my grips .
