Air jets mix up

Not sure if i did this right , the bike now bogs down and runs rich

 

You very well could have, they're kinda backwards from fuel jets.

The pilot (#190?) is the BIG one and the main is the small (#85) one.

 

So the big jet goes torward the air cleaner and the little jet torward the motor ?

Thank you I mixed the jets up , recleaned the carb and going to put them back on this weekend!!

i am not sure if they are talking about the same jet. I do not believe you can mix them up. The pilot is small the main is big. unless your talking about the ones above the the main and pilot

 

The air jets are physically the same short of the bore (jet size I.D)
and they are backwards to the fuel jets in that the smaller air jet is the main, and the larger is the pilot.

k so im back with an issue
Carbs are clean and reinstalled now when I set the idle with the thumb idle screw and it sounds great as soon I give it gas the rpms race sky high then im back to adj the thumb screw and then the idle is way to low

Any ideas

Could be an air leak. Use a propane torch (unlit) and hover around your carbs.. if the rpm's rise, you have a leak.

Carbs being WAY out of sync will do the exact same thing.

 

hummmm good thinking should i take off the air filters?

 

what if i spar the carbs with carb cleaner will it do the same thing

Depends on the type. some burn and some don't. spray a puddle and see if it will light with a match/bic. WD40 will burn but gets the engine sticky. I try to use a sprayer with the red pipe on it so I can be more certain where the air leak actually is. If it's around the butterfly shafy seals then it all comes back off to replace them. If it's around the rubbers somewhere then some black rtv will do the job.

 

Davie have you adjusted the valves yet? Trying to tune out the carbs without the valves being right has caused many people hours of frustration. It might seem intimidating when you read through the manual but is one of the easiest maintenance jobs to do, and takes minimal tools.

 

Which valves do you mean? Sorry I am knew to this. Before I cleaned out the carbs they were filthy but when warming up it would run decent.

 

I just checked the engine compression and everything is fine. I don't know what to do

 

What were your compression readings. I a talking the engines cylinder valves

I am not sure what the numbers where , I had someone I know check it for me. Think I should try the mixing screws on the top of the carbs? I think the bike shop set them 11/2 turns out

I just dont know what to do

 

k so still nothing gurrr time to sell or part it out

 

2.5 - 2.75 turns out from soft seat then colortune.

Check your float levels again.

ok cool i readjusted the turns. Now I can ride the bike with a little choke on then after 10 mins I can turn the choke off and its fine , well a little low idle at stop lights
