    Isn't it just typical?

Finally got motivated to start on the 650's. Started with the tank the other day. Spent most of the day sanding and wire brushing it to prep for paint, sanded up ok, but when I went back to it today I found a couple of patches of bog, so in an effort to make sure the tank is rust free I removed it and found a couple of nasty dents. Decided to move on to tank no 2. Again I came across bog and under it yet another nasty dent. I gave up on both of them and moved on the the last one of the teardrop shaped tanks I have...
This one was the worst looking one of the lot before I started working on them and had the most crap rattling around in it, but bugger me... It's the only one of the 3 with no dents and it's cleaning up quite nicely. It's just a shame it took me a day and a half to findout

Had a neighbor whos son rode dirt bikes and he told me he poped dents out of tanks with compressed air.
He made caps to go over the tank openings and built a cap that had a schrader valve in it to pressurize the tank.
I dont know how much pressure or anything else!~?

Around 10 psi. Much more will balloon your tank and pop the seams.

I have used compressed air on a tank, don't overdo it though as it is easy to deform the tank.

Careful with the compressed air. If the tank fails catastrophically could be very dangerous.

Anyone ever see the guys that remove dings from auto bodies? I used to work for an automobile dealer - the things these guys could do with a heavy wire rod and a brass hammer are amzing. Often don't even need to touch up the paint.

I've toyed with hunting one up for the dings on my tank. Problem is, I don't think they work cheap.

I got stung by Murphy today too. I was pulling the tach and speedo to upgrade the bulbs to LED's. Second bolt that hold the instrument cluster in broke off! So now I have to drive back into town and get an extractor. Drill the bolt out wiht the right sixe drill bit and the extractor won't bite. So I go back into town to get a smaller bit so maybe it will bite and find a set of extractors. Figuring the larger size extractor will bite I try it. It bites! Then the bike bites back and the extractor breaks!!! So now my headlight bracket is held in place with a zip tie while I wait for the ebay part's auction to end. Well.....at least the bulbs were brighter!

Blue, which LED bulbs did you use? What's your impressions of their brightness compared to stock?

I used the 194a available from AutoZone. I will know more once I ride with them at night. Amber color was all that was available. We had some major storms last night so I didn't get to ride. But I could notice a big difference riding during the day. If anything they may be so bright that at night they annoy me!

    ALive,

If you have some time on your hands and access to the right tools then have a look at THIS thread.

So long as the tanks are not rusty then it may be worth spliiting them. Makes it very easy to panel be at them properly.

They are getting harder to find so hate to see them go to waste.

    Cheers
    HG
