I have been trying to get a Vetter fairing for my 1982 Yamaha XJ750 Maxim since I got it back in March. I have found every fairing that I have wanted, but there is one problem- MOUNTS!!. I have decided either to get a Quicksilver or a Windjammer SS or III. I just can't find the Vetter mounts for my 750. I see 400, 650, 550, and even the old 360 twin mounts, but I can't find any for my 750. Surely there is an alternative mounting method, or other model mounts that would fit my bike. Do any of you have any experience in this field? I need some guidance ASAP!

Get your hands on any Vetter bracket set, and you're halfway home. Then get yourself an experienced welder and some scrap bits, and read this - -

You would be attaching a piece of angle to the front down-tubes then mating that to the Vetter brackets.

Also check out craigvettet.com for bracket making tips.

In a few weeks I hope to swap out windjammers. I could take pictures and measurements.

Fyi. The 82 750 maxim bracket comes with an extra triangle shape plate to mount to frame and vetter bracket.

I bought a Vetter fairing off of a 750 Honda years ago, before I customized my bike. The mounts were close, but did not line up with the bike frame down tubes, so I had to do some mods to the mount. I used pieces of tubing cut in half (lengthwise) to match the frame tubes for the bottom braces. Then I also bolted the top of the mounting bracket to those two large holes just where the down tubes come together on top. It was plenty solid and worked well for me that way.
Your probably going to need to do some cutting and welding to make the bracket work for you. The one from a 650 should be close enough to modify to work on your 750.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I have found a guy that sell NOS Quicksilvers with a mount he makes special for the 750 maxim. 239$ for the whole deal. Is this a good price? Do you think this would provide good coverage?

Quicksilvers are smaller than Windjammers, but a little closer in size to a factory Seca style fairing.

Used vetter fairing prices (without shipping) are all over the place. I got a few locally for $25 in various conditions. However, I've seen them on eBay and Craigs for $150+ used in poor condition. Your luck will vary.

If you can afford the NOS fairing and shipping go for it! It will be new and shiney.

Please note: Quicksilver brackets and Windjammer brackets are not interchangable. see this link: http://craigvetter.com/pages/Vetter_Fai ... _part.html

I think my parts bike does indeed have a Qs fairing. Can take pics of bracket this week.

1 wj5 - the 1st one purchased in poor shape. Crack around mounting holes. Fixable? Maybe.

1 set of BMW lowers for wjs. Modified to fit my maxim.

OK. Before you buy anything. PM me. I am about to remove the windjammer SS from my xj650. It's in excellent condition.

I would assume it should fit your 750 without much trouble.

I am still looking for stock headlight assemblies.
