    hello all,
i was tearing down the carbs on my 86 xj700s today and kinda dropped the vaccum piston and bent the needle jet. my problem is i can't find one to replace it. does anyone here know how to find a replacement? i would just try and bend it back but i dont think it would seat properly.
    thanks for your time

I did get a few clutch rods found in early Honda Cd175's straightened past year, so im pretty sure there's a way/shop in your area that should help get that bent needle back in shape.

I have a set of needles from a 81 xj750r. If they will fit, they're yours.
    Where are you in Ar?

You're not alone in this...I happened to do the same thing to the first carb I cleaned on my 86 Maxim. I did try straightening it, and rode for a while after "fixing" it. Its not really the way to go. I ended up buying a rack of 1986 carbs and bought them for a needle and other parts I may mess up. I have 3 good needles left. These are for the air-cooled Maxim, not the "X".

Contact me if interested. I can hopefully help you out.

There's a jet number stamped on the top of the jet needle just below the plastic retainer.

XJ650 the jet needle is Y-10 Hitachi carb
XJ700N the jet needle is Y-20 Hitachi carb
XJ700X the jet needle is Y-2 Mikuni carb
XJ750 the jet needle is Y-13 Hitachi carb

It's info I dug up for you from the XJCD manuals. The info was to help you get the same jet as what you have. To find one is a good question, from someone on this fine site, Yamaha if they can supply, or the wreckers.

    Good luck

_YO, I was trying to determine wether your bike was liquid cooled or not.

If it is then it's an XJ700X
If not then it's an aircooled XJ700 like an N which is what I have.

If it's liquid cooled then it has Mikuni Carbs
If it's air cooled then it has Hitatchi Carbs

It would help to know what were talking about.

BTW if you ad what your bike is in your profile then you wouldn't have to tell everyone each time you look for some tips, I guarantee that question will be one of the first ones asked anyway.
