Ad least you were thinking about it first. I am sure you can find someone that will buy your chrome And flat drag bars you might have a problem they hit the tank when you turn. Hopefully they are angled enough and it will be ok. Actually if i am thinking right the throttle cables hit the tank. Pics can't be any larger then 500 pixels or they wont load on your post looking forward to seeing it

Thanks guys, I think I'm going to save the parts and box them up. I good friend just came over and said, it would be a shame to cut and weld on that bike. I'm still trying to figure out photobucket. Lol... Thanks for the input and I'll post pic's asap.

    Welcome to the site !!

If you're good at upholstery, you could make-up seat kits for the various XJ models.

DUDE!! Put the hacksaw down and step away from the XJ!!
    LOL

Seriously though, that is one sweet looking XJ.

You will still want to do the following, just so you KNOW it was done:

    Change oil/oil filter/air filter
    Check valve shims
    check rear brake for delamination
    Check front brake line dates
    Check date codes on tires
    Install/replace in-line fuel filter

Thanks for the input (tskaz)The funny thing is I bought the bike from an owner of a bike shop that I do bussiness for. He told me to come pick up this bike. He redid everything on it and it needs is gas. The tire still have titts on them. LOL. I have to change that 80's paint job. I think it kills the bike. What you think?

I wouldn't say it's an 80's paint job, but I can understand wanting to make it your own. Please don't cut that up, paint it how you'd like it, mod it out with the things you think are cool or that you like, and keep everything so that it can be made stock again. Someone will thank you for it later down the road. Us older guys are a little sentimental, lol!

Welcome to the forum from CT.

That's such a pretty bike and they're not getting newer. There's a lot of folks here who wish their bike was in as good a condition as the one you have. A Bobber is always fun but so is riding a beautiful machine that hasn't been made in 30 years and looks as good as the day it was shipped from Japan.

Do think long and hard about the need to chop this bike into something that won't be able to be undone.

Enjoy the forum, there's a world of great help and information here.

    Cheers!

After giving it alot of thought, I've decided to still make a bobber. BUT mod it so it can be put back the same way it was when I got it!!! The reason for this mod is, I'm a custom Motorcycle seat builder and I need to show off my work at the bike shows. I want to let the members and the moderators know that I'm not here to pick up bussiness in any way. I just wanted to be up front with everyone. The bike will be painted Root beer color and theme will be Pirates. I spoke to the painter today and I will see the airbrush guy on Monday. Thanks for all the input guys and I hope I didn't step on any toes out there.

Shame to modify a bike in that condition. But it is, after all, yours to do with as you please.

You can give your bike a bobber feel without cutting it.
    I did.[IMG]

I'm only going to cut behind the shock mount so later i can slide a steel tube inside both cut pieces and reweld the frame and I'll get smaller shocks. I guess it won't be a true cut up bobber. but still look great.

Drag bars came today and I spent about an hour installing them. I see I'm going to have to spend some $$$ to make them look good. Does anyone know where I can find new brake lever with brake fluid section and clutch lever assembly? Thanks guys!!!!

I'd check with Chacal, and then if he can't help you, start combing flea-bay. But since it's custom, you will probably have more options. Root beer, liking it! :)

@ thecamelman79, I would love to but the Donny from V-twin concept, the place i got it from would not be to happy if I did that. He did me a Favor to find me a nice bike. If you know what I mean.
Well went for a ride today, first real ride and noticed that the carbs have issues. No big deal i just ordered all new goodies(guts) inside the carbs, plus new Air filter, new screws plus with the drag bars, the choke lever hits the tank. So relocating it is the only option. I will post pic's next week when I install. Thanks guys for all your help!!!!

P.S. I also ordered the seat pan that I will tool some cool stuff in plus Mexican basket weave around the edges!!!!
