Hey, this is the wrong spot to put up your want add. Try HERE for that.

Also, the Canadian XJ was made, I believe, one more year after the US bike. For example, mine is an 83 XJ650R, and I believe you could only get up to an 82 in the US. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

    Thanks!
I'm still not 100% on the exhaust. It is a 4-1, but beyond that I don't know. I had posed the question to others on the site to help me in the past but can't remember if we came up with the answer... The pipe is an 'e-bay special' shorty reverse megaphone.

The combo works great, though. Get compliments on the sound all the time.

how exactly does it sound? does it sound like a rocket? or just more throaty than stock? I really like the looks of it :)

I also noticed that you have some sort of extension from where the headers end under the bike to where the muffler starts, what sort of thing is that? Store bought or fabbed?

It definately sounds more throaty than stock, but I don't think it sounds quite like a crotch rocket. Hard to compare it to the stock sound b/c the bikes came with a 4-into-2 with a collector, and now it's a 4-into-1 with a fibreglass packed shorty. But it is pretty agressive sounding.

The extension is fabbed, but it is just a reducer to allow the smaller muffler to fit on to the larger collector.

I brought the new pipe to a muffler shop, found a piece of exhaust tubing that fit just inside and had it stretched on one side to fit over the header... Cost: $0.00. ;)

Bought a shell off e-bay, then modified it and glassed it to a replacement stock seat pan I also bought on e-bay and finally to fit the shape of the bike.

I'm sure I have a full build page on it but it is probably long lost in the archives by now...

Read this a while ago, and now again today, I just want to say that is a really cool looking bike. I really like the clip ons. It looks like it is ready to race something just sitting there!

Thanks! To be honest I struggle with the idea of switching back to the clubman bars all the time, they're great on the 650 secas.

Thanks for keeping the thread alive streetbrawler.

I have to say something too, I read your build archive on that bike and it inspired pretty much most the work I'm going to do with my bike. Unfortunately I'm starting with a Maxim, so a little more work to do appearance-wise, but a good base.

Very nice 650, love the black with the checkered stripe.

Great looking bike! I just picked up an 82 550 seca that I plan on turning into a cafe project.

Nope no updates that I can think of...

Work has consumed my life for the past year (I'm an engineering student trying to make a good impression with a company).

I am however still seeking out another project for when I get some spare time.

OK, so another project showed up... Picked up a partially re-built 1977 TS 250 this Sunday. My plan is to build a street-legal 2-Stroke flat tracker.

It's obviously not an XJ, so I'll be doing the build over on DTT.
If you're interested (and patient), the build page is 1977 Suzuki TS-250

I still have the stock gauges on there. Plan was to put the smallest gauges from mixesxs.com... Just haven't bothered yet.

For now I'm still working on the pile of parts you see above.
    Looks like this now:

This is the stuff of inspiration. Though I don't have a SECA so I find myself wondering if a maxim cafe could turn out anywhere near this beautiful. This is the best xj cafe I have found on the internet so far. Gorgeous.

    Wow, Thanks!
Depends on the maxim. The 650s have the same tank mounts as far as I know. Should be able to pop a 650 seca tank on and start there!

Man wish I could find one of those sweet 650 SECA tanks for my xj750 maxim project. Any other ideas, like a similar style tank from an XS maybe...not sure what fits over that massive 3 piece backbone.

Question for you, so you have a interchangeable seat for the bike, just in case the wife wants to ride, right? Then when your riding solo you place the other sit on? If that is so can you post pictures and where you purchase your items from? I was going to do a bobber style bike but changed my mind base off my wife wanted to ride along with me. Just to give you an idea where I am coming from.

Because I was going to go with a weld on end on my rear of the bike. Still keeping the cafe racer look but along two people to ride at the same time. Then there is the euro 2 up seat, which is a flat seat not tail end which I still can't graps the idea of that b/c I like the tail end more better.

    Help, overall, thanks!
