I have spent several hours trying to put the stock air box back on my maxim x.
The p.o removed it i have removed the carbs starter clutch bracket turned wiggled pried. No go looks like i either have to remove water pump piping or loosen up the motor and drop the front some. Its really getting on my last nerve. Any ideas without dissembling the bike

I believe the water pump and piping need to come off.

I THOUGHT someone did it last fall but I can't remember. Then again, it might have been an airhead (which doesn't have the water pump ;)

Just drop the engine, and while it's out you might as well paint it....and then you could powder coat the frame too HA HA

Those damn Orings on the coolant tubes do not seal up after you disturb them so you'll need new one's if that's the route you take. That one elbow on the discharge of the water pump really likes to get stuck in there too so that can add to the aggrivation.

I was afraid of that. Bike is all done painted only thing left is to do is rebuild the carbs. It ran fine with the pvc intake. I will change it out when i i have to change water pump seal or have to pull the motor. I spent the past few months detailing and painting. The only thing i can think they did was cut the old one out

And you always wondered what the VERY first part on the assembly line was.
    Now you know!

OH and don’t get too excited, the carburetors were the second.
