Hey all. I am new here. Just bought a 82 XJ550 Maxim. I have had it for about 2 days and modifications have already taken place... I upgraded to low-profile turn signals, changed the oil and filter, removed the headlight and upgraded to a aftermarket setup with intergrated turn signals for the front. I also just installed front fork and triple tree setup from my old scrap bike, a 1992 Suzuki Katana 600. So i have adjustable front suspension and twin front disk with quad piston calipers. My bike will be a bit of a mut so I hope I dont offend any pureists here. LoL

Welcome to the site. Be sure to check the rear brake shoes for de-lamination. Common on these bikes. It is recommended that the brake seals be replaced every 2 years and the lines (hoses) every 4. If you replace the hoses, go stainless. I guess as you've replaced the front end, the last comment is no longer a concern. But do check the rear brake.

Len (member name Chacal) has the factory manual as well as the Haynes and Clymer manuals. I highly recommend getting at least one of them if not all of them. Some of the members on here can email you a copy of the schematic for the 550, but I still highly recommend getting at least one of the manuals, you'll need it.
