To make a long story short ...

I wrote to IKON (formerly Koni Shocks) ... Informing them that I'm in the market for 100 Pair of their Top-of-the-line, Adjustable, totally rebuildable, high-performance shocks to fit XJ-750 (which fits everybody)!

If they are willing to give us a --> Spectacularly <-- Good deal. I'll run the numbers with them for the best deal I can negotiate and see who wants new shocks.

If they tell me to inquire with a local distributor ... I can tell them that there is no "Local supplier." If they tell me to inquire with an authorized distributor ... I'll tell them "No. If I was ordering 2 ... I'd see the dealer. I'm ordering 200. It's between them and us ... all jobber and dealer mark-up stays off ... with the savings passed-on to the membership. I know its a big vig ... 15, maybe 20-Percent or more.

Let's rattle this cage and see what happens.
Just for Schlitz and Grinns! : )

You have my full undivided attention.

Could you ask if they'll tailor the spring rates to the rider largess?.

Keep me posted as well, depending on the price break. Also in regards to what bosozoku said, i would like to get a set 1 inch shorter for my X if that is possible.

I'll let them know we're for real.

I'll ask about "Tuning" the order to satisfy individual requirements. I'm sure once the ball gets rolling ... we'll be treated well.

As of this writing: 03/01/'07 12:40PM ... nothin' yet!

I'm listening as well. I'm green on this subject. Why should I replace my shocks? What is their retail price?

You replace the rear shocks for any number of reasons.

If you shop at "Big-'n-Tall" and you ain't Tall and are riding on just rear springs without good shock dampening because the originals are cooked ... that's my good reason.

Upgrading to shocks that will provide a wide range of performance characteristics. Settings for all-day highway; or short-term track.

Cosmetic. When the old ones look like they lived under a pile of newspapers behind the bus station before they moved into your garage on the back of your bike.

Snob appeal and braggin' rights. "Yea, they're real Koni's. I just put 'em on. Are your's those Chinese one's from JC Whitney?"

And, because somebody got you "Such-eh-DEAL!"

    You'll ride more. :D

On a more serious note, the quarter-century old shocks on your bike are very, very tired.

    Greetings,

It's been a while since I've paid a visit to the site. I will assume that
the shocks will fit a 650 Seca. - I'm still riding with the originals.....
I live in Canada, hopefully we can sort out a decent shipping fee along
    with the price.

    Waiting................Cliff

Nada. Not a peep. The letter was on my Dell Computer that had the big heart attack and died.

So was a ton and a half of some zany, yet pretty well received Technical Writing for Yamaha XJ-Series Bikes, my whole 900 restoration diary and the unbelievable story of my here's-a-bike-for-free Maxim.

    The new iMac is fun.
I'm keeping-up with all the mail and working on the Ultimate XJ-650/750 Trouble-shooting guide.

    Life goes on.

There are people who specialize in retrieving data from dead hard drives. They can work wonders. Might be worth a look-see:

Rick, A PE Disk (Preload Environment) might be just what your looking for. It worked for me when my drive when down. The program I used is Bart PE, its free, and lets you run windows from your cd drive, and explore the hard drive of the damaged computer. PM me if you think it might help, I can send you a copy of the disk

Rick - I do some hard drive recovery.

First - the data is most likely recoverable. Unless the harddrive itself absolutely destroyed itself, you can in most cases retrieve at least some of the data. Usually the computer becomes unuseable before the drive completely gasps it's last breath. If it was a quick death then you can normally blame corrupted files which is a relatively easy fix.

There are various methods, depending on what state the computer and/or harddrive are in. If you want to chat through this we can do it any time.

    Woot.

Seems like a DEAD DEAL. I have had absolutely NO response from IKON.

Not even a "Hello. Thanks for trying. No."

Too bad! I helped my local club buy 47 sets of Ohlins shocks. We got a great deal too.

Does Ohlins make suitable shocks for the Seca? I have an awesome set on my GS!

    Define "great deal"

I'm sure Ohlins makes something that fits - in fact most of their shocks are size adjustable, so that's a non-issue.

I think cost is the big stepping stone for something like Ohlins

The BMW takes shocks front and rear, so it takes two shocks. However they are very different from the XJ shocks in that they are much larger, and much more adjustable.

They normally went for near $1500 a set, and we got them for $1120 a set.

The seca shocks for a rear pair would be far less.

Hagon is another possible replacement for the Seca, and available in levels of options from stock to race, and everything inbetween.

Anyhow, I am a huge proponent of quality aftermarket suspension pieces.

As for Ohlins - I suspect that unless they've got something we can get for less than $300 a set, they're pretty much out.

I'd love to have a set of those Ohlin's on my bike:

I'm going to write to Budweiser, Coors, Miller Brewing, Jack Daniel's and Sears to see if they will sponsor me fo the parts.

Hagon shocks cost me $375 NZ, Ohlins quoted $999NZ for their base model and that is what I will purchase for my next project as they are the best

    "No."

    "No."

I guess I have to stop thinking in BMW prices!

What other manufacturers out there make reasonably priced shocks?

I have organized group buys before, and am willing to try again. But only if we can get what most people want.
