Ok I just bought a 1980 XJ650G and drove it for a good 2 hundred miles i wanted to clean the carbs on it and wen i got down there to take it off i found that one of the boots from the carb to the air box (IDK wut it called) wasnt fully attached. well i got that done took me a good hour to do it and stared her up and idled wonderfully untill i turned the throttle handle. then it started to idle to around 5k RPM's turned it off and then bak on and it went straight to 5k rpm's again straightened out the handle bars and it went to around 9 k rpm's. So my question is how do i adjust the throttle cable to loosen it up a little bit?? thanks so much :?:

For starters this is posted in the completely wrong forum; request a mod move it to "XJ Chat."

Your throttle cable sounds like it's mis-routed or slipped out of it's bracket at one end or kinked more than needing adjustment. Or you trapped the throttle quadrant under the fins on the back of the cylinders.

But more importantly, since you got the bike:

HAVE YOU PHYSICALLY INSPECTED YOUR REAR BRAKE SHOES FOR SIGNS OF DELAMINATION???

If not, quit trying to ride the bike, and do that first. Serious biz: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15874.html

Pull the rear wheel off and look at the brake shoes.
