fork dampener

    trying to change my fork seal and i getting very frustrated i cannot get anything to engage the dampener for the top tried 3/4 tried 19 mm nothing is working

    "Unlike other forks that have been described, the ones that I am seeing (in two different sets of forks) do not have any fluting inside the damper rod to hold it still. However, I have not yet had to hold one still, as they seem to lock themselves from turning somehow."

    I found this to be true on my 81 seca. Heard a slightly beveled dowel and a lot of pressure can work to hold the rod but I don't know.
    My dampener bolts heads were striped so I drilled out the head and had enough bolt left hanging out of the dampener to grab them with vice grips and turn them out.

    seems i have one with no way to put a socket in it. awooden dowel didi the trick
