I'm assuming the overflow tube either wasn't installed, it came off, or was routed incorrectly.

On the plus side, at least it wasn't your leg.

Have you tried chrome polish to remove it?

So you acid etched you exhaust. That would not be an easy fix. I'd checkk around for a chrome plating spot near you. It may work out to be cheaper than new. Plus you replate other parts too if needed.

Yup, your only option os to replace it of replate it. Nothing in the known world will repair etched chrome.....sorry but that's the honest truth. I've run across more pipes having acid etch than I can count and there is no repair. I've even tried "Copy Chrome" from Caswells but it doesn't look very nice you can minimize the appearence by buffing it with a soft wheel and Mothers metal polish but it will only fade the stain a little.

Rule out re-plating unless you know somebody. Most platers won't touch used motorcycle exhaust components because there's too great of a possibility of contaminating their $3000 vat of chemicals. Every one I've ever asked won't touch exhaust parts (although one guy did quote me $1200 to re-plate two headpipes.)

maybe try caswell nickel kit, i used it on scratched chrome and it was still scratched but it shined, the nickel has a slight yellow tint like chrome has a slight blue tint but you have to have the right light and really look hard to see it

I have used a fine grit polishing compound for getting rid of scrathes on paint, you may be able to do the same?

Naw, his problem runs deeper then skin deep.

Fitz is right about some plating companies but there is one at the northern edge of the Chesapeake Bay called "Polished Treasures" that will do used motorcycle exhausts. Don has done some for me for my triples. He does fantastic work, copper filling any dents, nickel plating covered by chrome..... and charged me less then $500 for THREE full exhausts! Same ones you see on my purple H2. I was floored by how inexpensive he was but amazed at how good the pipes looked. I have a phone number is anyone needs it but you can Google them since they have a website.

Might be a moot point though since the Hairy one <LOL> (HirsuitHeathen) already said he had a spare.
