Just got my K & N filter for my bike today, I was just wondering if I lightly oil the perimiter sides of the filter or the actual inside flaps of the filter.

Also any suggestions on how much oil I should be using?

If the filter is one of those slip in reuseable foam kinds , you will oil the entire filter,
put some gloves on, put some oil on the filter, massage it into the foam, do it to both sides.

You DO NOT want it soaked like a spunge, but just have enough to LIGHTLY coat it.

Good advice for foam types there Ross but the K&N is not that type.

Mrhuba, the K&N is a cotton filter that requires a unique formulation of oil. K&N markets a Filter Recharge kit that is reasonably priced. To properly service this type of filter, you need to trace down the tips of each pleat with the oil and allow it time to wick down the face of the pleat. If you don't see it make it all the way down in a few hours, touch some more oil on. More is not necessarily better with this system but the correct amount is mighty important. The coverage after a few hours (I usually wait 3+) should appear as a uniform color across the face of the pleat.
Proper cleaning and servicing should yield years of excellent service for you.
    Good luck!
