Although I'm sure you can find an online version somewhere, the general consensus will be to buy one from Amazon, eBay, or other resellers.

    ...thanks, Andrew.
Being a member on many boards resulting from my many bikes, ...I've never once been accused of "pirating" a manual from a board when I ask for one. My take on these Forum Boards is that they exist for the exchange of information so we can maintain our bikes on our own. What is more basic than a manual?

Not to flame, but I find autosdafe comment absurd.

Yes, ...I'll find a manual. Then I'll load it onto my server, along with my GL manuals, and share it with all. There should be no DRAMA in trying to get a .pdf manual for any of my bikes (including my SECA). My page below lists my Honda GL manuals free for the downloading to anyone who wants one. I'll include the SECA manual there when I get it.

Much as I might feel that Yamaha and others should make factory manuals freely available, they do not. As long as the authors are not sharing their intellectual property, reposting it is copyright violation and, yes, piracy.

I really doubt that Yamaha cares. I've certainly never heard of them or any other vehicle manufacturer pursuing anyone, but, until they start posting these manuals on their own site (like some electronics companies have done), or they make some written statement allowing free duplication of their paper manuals, the only legitimate way to get one will be to buy an original paper manual.

I wish that others would see the benefit of making those manuals available to the enthusists of their respective products, we might see more old iron/members!
Seriously however, piracy is what it is and as law abiding citizens, we hold it as an act of polite society to uphold the rights of authorship.
Please be kind enough to respect our culture. Absurd or otherwise.
I totally agree with your appraisal of the purpose of forums such as this, it is a future I'd like to see come to pass. Until I can pass copyrighted material along without my conscience bothering me (I'm a huge fan of authors who provide the books I enjoy), I'll stay on the right side of the straight an narrow.

Well, I've found a few manuals on-line. I need to look deeper though.

I agree with bikes this old, service manuals should be provided free from the manufacturer. BUT.. That isn't the case.

Like the above posters have said, the IP of said manuals is still under copyright law, as such, you CAN NOT distribute the manuals in any way, shape, or form.

Ask the RIAA how they feel about the subject :)

It's not absurd, it's the law unfortunately.

This is the only forum where I've found this kind of attitude towards .pdf manuals. I find it kinda shocking, really...

My own manual will be ISBN-registered and will freely distribute via .pdf.
Printed and bound versions I'll sell if the market want's it. For me, it's about helping Fellow Bikers keep their bikes on the road. It's not about the absurdity of the Law in any form associated with file transfer of copyrighted material.

    Hello Steve,

    Thank you for your enquiry.

The copyright in the illustration to which you refer belongs to Weber, who gave permission to Haynes to use it in the manual. Unfortunately Haynes cannot pass on this copyright permission to a third party. So strictly speaking you should seek permission from Weber, which is now part of the Magneti Marelli group. However, I do not suppose that they will be very concerned about what you do with a 30-year old diagram. As far as Haynes is concerned I can assure you that we will not raise any objection should you post the picture on your website.

Sorry not to be of more positive help.

    Regards

The listing of various .pdf Haynes manuals, or portions thereof on my site is known to the above, and as stated, I have no authorized permission to do so. But, ...there is a obvious "Gentlemens Agreement" in the offering of information with no financial gain sought or accrued that most all persons seem to understand is permissable within shared networks for personal use. If you were my next-door neighbor and asked to have my Haynes manual, would I then be breaking the "Law"? In legal-ese terms, this is no different.

The transfer of .pdf manual files is no different for the common interests and purpose we have here.

    The "Laws" need updating, ...obviously.

    Steve.
