Depends on the noise, could be a major problem or noisy valves. Since you indicate its only noisy after the engine is warm I suspect you need to check valve clearences. The first thing is to check the valve adjustment. Changing oil is not a solution for engine noise.

You need to define that a little.

Engines can make all kinds of noise for many reasons.

Xj motors are noisy by nature. You SHOULD hear the tic from
the cam lobes as they work over the shims.

Also, there is a distinct "whine" as well.

If the small rubber "absorbers" are missing from the motors
fins then you might get a buzzing sound.

Ya if you're not used to it, you could take the normal valve ticking to be an issue. But on these bikes, you LIKE to hear the valves :) Reminds me of a chorus of frogs singing :)

If it's a new noise it just might be an exhaust leak. They often present as a ticking noise. Check where the headers bolt into the exhaust manifold using a 2' length of hose. If you use a smaller diameter hose (1/4 to 3/8") you should be able to snake it in around the collector and along the full length of the exhaust. If this is it it should be very noticeable when you get to the leak.
