yamaha r1 front end

    I remember a few years ago on here there was a guy who put the front end off an R1 on to his I do believe it was a maxim x it may have been a maxim im not sure. but either way it was the inverted front end. If this guy is still around or anyone has some info on it id like to know what year the forks where from and some idea of what modifications he had to make thanks

    I'm not sure where that guy is but in the mean time just to get you started:

    You're going to need a complete R1 Front end including the triple tree. You'll need to figure out if the stem will work with the XJ (probably won't) or if you can do something simple like a bearing swap (see: http://www.allballsracing.com/index.php/forkconvertion ). Note that this doesn't account for steering stem length.

    If you can't, you'll have to remove the stem from the XJ and press it/do some machining to make it fit where you removed the stock R1 stem. You'll have to make sure you don't drastically alter the handling of the XJ, as far as I know the R1 has much shorter forks.

    After you're bolted on, you'll need to figure out how to get sensory input for your speedometer by using R1 instruments or something aftermarket. You also might not like having a different rear wheel and that opens up another can of worms. If you're going to try to use the XJ front wheel you're going to have to machine up spacers and it might look a bit funny since the R1 front wheel is quite a bit wider then a maxim. You'll also have to account for the disc brake.

    If you're not dead set on inverted forks, you can upgrade to yzf600r forks (just make sure you get the later fully adjustable ones), which are a bolt-on addition. You can also swap out the rear wheel for a 900 Diversion to match everything up. You can then stick R1 (non-radial) brakes on.

    In any case, prepare to spend a bit of $$$ unless you already have the parts!
