    Yeah, *another* one. I've searched high and low, and found this one showing pictures of where to put the speedo cable. Excellent information (I have a 1982 XJ550 Maxim, btw; not sure if it's the J or JR or JH or exactly what those designations mean...), but what I need now is: where do I buy the proper cable? I tried buying one from here, but it's got the wrong connector for the fork end.

    I've had my motorcycle since September of 2009, and love it. I recently repainted it (it was black) to metallic blue flake using Duplicolor rattlecans. Turned out really well, if I say so myself! :)

    Anyway... where should I be getting a speedo cable from?

    Thanks!

    Thank you for the enlightenment! Looks like I need this part:

    HCP2718 OEM original SPEEDOMETER DRIVE CABLE, includes the bright plated metal sleeve nut on meter end and the metal clip-bracket on the gear end as original, for all XJ550 Maxim models, XJ650 Maxim and Midnight Maxims, and all XJ750 models.
    $ 27.00

    Now to wander off and figure out how to order it from chacal!

    The "H" "J" and "K" are model year designators; H=1981, J=1982, K=1983, etc. You have an XJ550 without the "R." So yours is an XJ550J.

    The 550 Secas carried the "R" designation, so they are XJ550R+whatever model year letter.

    You order from XJ4Ever by sending a PM to member chacal; or email info "AT" xj4Ever.com.

    Since you bought this bike, have you removed the rear wheel and checked the rear brake shoes for signs of delamination? Read this: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15874.html You don't want the rear brake to unexpectedly lock.

    That is weird. I didn't remove the spaces. I went back and edited my message to put the spaces back in.
