    It just dawned on me that there is a wear or rub mark going around most of the rear tire at the same point where it looks very close to the drive shaft housing, am I correct to guess that the PO put too wide of a tire or should I be worried about a bigger problem? Sorry tried to post a picture but the computer was being stubborn.

    Little update, when I released the axle clamp on the right hand side (looking from the back of the bike forward) the tire moved right like it was the axle clamp holding everything in position, does this sound "normal"?

    Oh yeah and the axle is stuck so that the brake housing moves with it. Yeah!
    But I did find a few post with suggestions on how to get it out. We'll see what happens.....

    130/90-16....is the tire size that you should buy before you even think about taking that thing out for a ride. (Off the top of my head..double check that.)

    the right hand side is ALWAYS as you are sitting on the bike (you're right, but didn't need to specify :) )

    Axle clamp???? There's a castle nut....but that's on the left side. Can you look at the parts diagram (www.yamahapartshouse.com is one of the MANY places you can find a diagram) and be more specific? That sounds really strange.

    Hey,
    Rubbing is bad,
    You may want to remove the rim/tire, check the rear brakes for the delamination problem, inspect the bearings for play, looseness, and grease, clean and lube all brake pivot points, and re-assemble with the proper torque specs on the bolts, then check for further rubbing.

    Get back with us, this needs to be done right.

    The tire is a Dunlop K291T, the size says MU90S16 (at least I think that is the size only markings beside the usual on the tire)

    Damn, that's an OLD tire; like late '80s. You need to replace it anyway.

    MU90=140/90. It's too big.

    But the question remains...is the tire so big to cause the rubbing, or is it SOMETHING ELSE that is causing the rubbing? Mentioned something about the axle but still not sure what you mean...

    The rear axle was stuck inside the opening for the brake housing, buncha rust holding it in place so it would not slide out easily. When I loosened the spindle pinch bolt the axle and tire shifted to the right (gearing side) about an inch or so. Sorry didn't know the name for the spindle pinch bolt. Maybe the PO was trying to compensate for the tire rubbing and thought tightening the axle that way would help? Not sure just trying to think why it would do that.
