Has anyone ever relocated gauges and put them on the tank? I have an 82 XJ1100 which from what I hear has a mechanical speedometer/tach, but how hard would it be to switch this to electrical? is it even possible? I'd like to get something like this.
I like the look of the gauges on the tank, and I've looked at several kits, but can't find any for our bikes, they're all for harleys. Any suggestions or ideas? I'd really like to do this.

I also found this kit which looks like I'd be able to wire in the warning lights as well.

30 views and no replies? Surely someone at least has some input even if you haven't tried it.

I think finding a housing that will match the curvature of the tank will be the hardest part. Then you'll have to weld some mounting point on the tank. Once you have that you can probably find universal gauges that will fit the housing....sound like an interesting idea though. :D

Personally, I've never seen the practicality in moving the gauges OUT of your natural line of sight and putting them somewhere that requires you take your eyes completely off the road to look at them.

Converting the mechanical tach and speedo to electronic can be done, but it will take quite a bit of re-engineering.

(Sorry, but you asked for input.)

Gotta agree. When I was shopping for a new bike that was one thing I looked at. Didn't want to have to look down for gauges.

Thanks for the input fellas. I didn't expect it to be easy, and I agree looking down seems inconvenient at best, but I like the look. Maybe I should borrow my friends bike and see how well I like it in practice before taking the leap and putting forth the effort.

What about putting a HUD (Heads Up Display) on the windshield. It wouyld take some engineering but would be wicked cool to have all your data right in front of you. Just like a jet aircraft has. FYI I used to fix F-14's in my Navy days.
