Having a method to relieve Wrist and Grip while motoring along the Interstate is a nice option.
Having a device to HOLD the Throttle will relieve a lot of Hand-numbing and Dead Wrist symptoms.

    My favorite device is:
    The NEP Throttle Lock.

Right out of the box, ... it works OK.
With a slight Mod, ... it works GREAT.

It comes with a Allen Wrench and a Set Screw.
REPLACE the Set Screw with a Stainless Allen CAP Screw.
Use CAP Screw as External Adjustment.

    Install.
Using the Allen CAP Screw, ... adjust the Clamp to just barely defeat the Return Spring.
    The Throttle will adjust.
    You won't get fatigued.
    Your hand won't go dead.

Rick - just looked at the link you provided - man that looks awesome. I tried one of those friction units that you rest your wrist on and it was ok but it still leaves you having to keep your right hand on the throttle. I just got done riding about 80 miles today and the one thing I would really like is cruise control.

I've been running a $12 plastic unit for years - I love it. What about real cruise control? One that actually throttles the carbs to maintain a constant speed. I don't think it exists. It would have to have a really small throttle actuator with involvement of the speedometer. I believe they're available on new bikes, but aftermarket kits would be almost impossible to provide for old bikes like the xj's......just dreamin.

Yes sir, Saw that and the vista cruiser Rick.
Smart folks out there for sure..! I was lookin'
at something for a little relief from time to
time. The idea of just a slight touch on the
    brake lever is too slick.

Saw where a guy was using an o-ring off
of a piece of CAT equipment too. Super
cool idea... Wouldn't work out real well
    in my situation, Grip wise.

I went to buy it but it leads to a page which no longer exists...
If anyone knows of a valid seller please post.

if your wrist is that tired or sore don't ya think it's time for a stop, stretch, walk around, get some gas, touch your toes, rub your ass and gather your thoughts

Thanks Metal_Bob! That's a hit. I'll order it as soon as I get home from work.
I had one of these back in 1982 on my 1981 XJ550 when I was in the service. I loved it, and also thought I would never see one again. I rode for a bit this last weekend and my right hand got all tingley so having one of these just so I can move my wrist around a bit will really help. Thanks again!

Anyone want "cruise control" on a shoestring budget - today??

Go get yourself a - - shoestring!! - and tie it to the mirror.

While riding, you pull a bit of it in the space between the throttle and switch-pod. You leave a few inches dangle as a quick release if it gets too jammed. You only use enough to get the "right" amount of friction.

    Legal in all 50 States

Last spring I was having some problems with throttle hand numbness. Paid a visit to my Chiropractor and after a few pop's & cracks, I think I'm good as new. Might be something to consider....

It might be worth a visit. I broke my wrist about 10 years ago in a bike wreck, then I shattered it about 4 years ago in a bad fall on ice. So i now have a titanium plate with lots of screws after 5 hours of surgury... but I'm OK. Wouldn't you know it took the second incident for my doctor to realize that my bone density isn't what it should be and put me on corrective medication! But I'm OK.

It actually doesn't bother me much, I turn 50 this fall. I snowmobile it the winter and the cold doesn't bother it either. If I bang some nails for a while I get reminded of what happend. Old age I guess :)

I looked into maybe getting a control device or one of those clip-on wrist jobbies myself. I just don't like the looks of any of them.

Anyway, I put a new set of handlebars on a while ago. While doing this, I accidentally discovered how easy it is to compensate for throttle return. While attempting to put the throttle housing on the new bars, I unknowingly slid the housing on too far. As I tested the throttle on the new bars, I discovered that by pushing it on too far, I had created some friction between the end of the handlebar and the inside of the grip. This friction alone was enough to hold the throttle when twisted but not great enough to cause any difficulties for the wrist.

Sure, it may not be an optional control unit but its hella convenient!

I bought the NEP throttle lock that RickCoMatic mentioned. I got it installed and like he said, with a little modding with a Dremel it fits and works awesome. It gives me just the wrist relief I was looking for. To be able to take my right hand off the grip for a minute makes longer rides sooo much nicer. Thanks Rick!

I just got mine last week, but haven't installed it yet. What kind of modding did you do with the dremel tool?
