    I got the C.R.A.B.S.

    Can't Ride A Bike Syndrome

I'm a confessed bike addict and literally ride every day.
But, I haven't ridden a bike in over 5 weeks! However, I really do have such a good reason.
After a year of extensive paperwork and travel, my wife and I just adopted our 16 month old son, Simon Joseph. He is considered special needs - Albinism. He is just beautiful!
We are in our early 50s and have four grown children.
    So, we are starting over.
I'm gonna try to attach his photo.

    Congrats.

Now grab some bungies/tie downs and a baby seat. Strap it on backwards to the passenger seat and go for a ride with him! LOL

Inspired by some of those foreign "bike" videos and pictures. :)

or even better yet, strap on some 2x4's and put him "next" to you to the side and drive that way , just like they would do on the video :)

    Congrats on the adoption.

I've got a one week old and haven't seen my bike in about two weeks.

    Congratulations, Rusty!!!

Offering congratulations to a new dad is soooo much better than needing to give-out advice to someone with a bike that won't start.

Now you get to do all that fun stuff a dad gets to do with a son.
    I missed-out on the father~son relationship.
But, ... doubled-down on daughters. Twins.

They both want me to park the bike.

    Bless you and your family,

    Thanks Rick.
I also have three daughters in their 20s. For clarification only - two are my stepdaughters who were 3 and 6 when I married their mom, but they are still my girls 100%.
Two of them can ride motorcycles. The third claims she will one day.
My wife and older son also ride.
Simon has really poor vision due to his Albinism and lack of pigmentation in the rear of his eyes. As far as we have discovered through research, about the best that can be achieved with glasses is 20/200.
I have seen one guy on tv who had a kind of monocular over his left glasses lense that allowed him to drive a car. It looked lke the eyepiece a jeweler wears to inspect jewelry.
Who knows, maybe something will be developed to allow Simon to see better later on and maybe be able to ride a motorcycle one day.
God is great and can allow that for us. I believe it!
Boasting a bit...I am the rare dad whose daughters actually want to walk arm in arm with him in Walmart.
I've gotten some funny looks when I meet some of my ministry students in there. They may not know all of my daughters, but they know that the young lady on my arm isn't my lovely wife. I have to make it a point to walk over and introduce whichever daughter I have at the time. Then they laugh like nothing was out of the ordinary.
I just have to say to all men out there (as if anyone needs to hear it at all), daughters are special. Love them for life.

Nice work, sir. Wife and I are having some troubles trying for kid #2. Adoption may be in our future as well. And yeah, kids put a damper on the recreational riding for a while for sure. But there's no better way to get some 'me' time (which we ALL need) and blow out the cobwebs than to sneak away for even a short ride (like after the house is asleep). And yeah, we generally call it P.M.S. around here. :D

BTW, my daughter will be 5 next month (can't believe that!) and will soon be getting a hand-me-down 50cc dirt bike. She still needs to lose the training wheels on her pedal bike, but hopefully the dirt bike will be motivation. She's very interested in my bikes and just last week asked, "When can we all go for a ride?" I said, "When you get a little bigger and when Mommy learns to ride on her own - we can't all fit on one bike." She said, "When I get older, I'm going to get my OWN bike, and THEN we can all ride." Awesome. I didn't 'force' any of that on her, or train her in any way, that was all her. Love it. Now, if I could just get Mommy to take the MSF course . . . . She likes riding pillion, but isn't motivated to get her own bike - I've tried.

Great story Oblivion. I couldn't have written that one better myself.

My wife's yanking on me to get a side car for the Venture. I may consider that a little later on.

I guess I have a few years before Simon will be getting on any bike with me.

Who knows, by the time he is old enough to ride, some newfangled technology may be available to help his vision enough for him to get a license and ride for himself. If not, he will always have a seat reserved bhind me.

I'm probably gonna sneek outa here late tonight or tomorrow night for a spin. I'm about to split to ride at least a few miles or so.

If you want to go the international adoption route, pm me. I'll give you the name of our adoption agency. They were so wonderful! I got a whole story for ya.

Thanks, 'Max. I'll get that info from you if we go that route. I think my wife was inclined to help out more locally, but options are good. We're giving ourselves to the end of the year to have our own. Have a great ride and enjoy the heck out of little Simon. Here's hoping his medical future is bright!
