    Thanks for bringing this up.

I wear hearing protection anytime I shoot, use a saw, chainsaw, lawnmower etc.......

Never really gave much thought to the motorcycle.

    I'll be getting some.

Hearing protection is a very important fact when riding. I can still recall the ringing in my ears for hours after a long day on the road (pre-hearing protection days). The wind noise is there and while it is not a super high amplitude sound, it can cause hearing issues over time. Best get started now. Thanks for mentioning it and furnishing the link Polock.

I'm in a shop that restores Classic Cars. There's so much loud, high-freq noise from air tools happening ... that I am the Champion of hearing protection for the Craftsmen.

I carry around industrial ear protection gear in little packages and hand them out to who ever needs them and any new guys without 'em.

    Hearing loss is cumulative.
Toilet tissue moistened with warm water, squeezed-out and stuffed in your ears works GREAT in a pinch!

    Pardon me? Say that again?

    :)
Just kidding. I should wear them more often but I break them out occasionally.

I do wear them, but only if I'm going to be doing highway speeds (for more than 10 minute short blasts). If I'm just scooting about town and staying under 70 km/h, then I don't use them.

Always with the Buell. The XJ is fairly quiet with a full-face on, and my rides on it are mostly short hops, 20 miles or less. It's still a good idea, though.

There's a magnificent-looking "Hybrid" ~~> Yamaha Powered Buell ... right on the Cover of this months Bike Magazine.

Looks like a XS Engine. I always liked that XS Power Plant!

I now wear mine if I am riding for more then a couple of miles. Up until last summer I never tried them, but I didn't ride much on the hi-way, after a couple of long trips on the hi-way I bought a pack and now I use then on most rides, hi-way or not. I found that not only do they work well for cutting out wind noise but also help you sleep when you hear animals of unknown size digging through your food pack at night while camping 8O .

Actually I need to pick up some more; maybe I will try that trial pack from the ear plug store.

Always. The wind noise on my unfaired Seca is deafening at 70mph. If I sit bolt upright so my head is above the flow off the instrument panel, it's better, but the aerodynamics aren't!

My favorite plugs right now are some orange Smith & Wessons I found on the hardware aisle at Wally World.

I use a set of "military style" plugs for my keychain. That way I always have a set.

I just got a set of the Smith & Wessons from wallyworld. WOW! What a difference. Can only hear the wind going over the helmet. Can do 70 MPH and only way I know the engine is running is from the tingling in the boys.

    I'm a believer.

I've got a pair of Shure E2C sound-isolating headphones for my commute. A little pricey, but if you ride a couple hours a day it's totally worthwhile. Saves my hearing and my sanity. About a half-hour of riding without music or something and I start talking to myself inside my helmet. It gets ugly fast.

talking to yourself is kind of normal, answering yourself is a little strange
but when you get a three way conversation going it's time to stop and buy your friends a beer

If you care about such things, you should check with local authorities about listening to earphones while operating a motor vehicle. I'm pretty sure it's commonly illegal. The only exception I've heard about it only having one in.

Plain ol' ear plugs, I was told by the Illinois State Police, are fine as long as you can still hear traffic hazards.
