I started out riding on a bored/stroked CBR1000...a bike that put down 164rwhp. It took 45 minutes to realize a mistake and take the bike back. I tried a couple other rides but the experience on the CBR pretty much scared me away from riding up until 2002...I got back in then. I picked me up a 1983 Yamaha Maxim 400 that had been run over. Everything on the bike was a little "tweaked" from the incident but she ran and I loved it.

She was knocking a little, though, so I tore the motor apart. With a little research I found forged rods, 11.8:1 pistons, and yoshimura cams...that last one took a LOT of phone calls and I only found them by fluke (friend visiting Japan stumbled upon them). I had the head ported and cut for 1.75" valves. With the exhaust I built for her and some really odball jetting (tiny pilots, HUGE mains) she dyno'ed 47rwhp and 38ft/lbs...I was thrilled. The motor is a badass. The bike, though...ehhh...not so much. I loved riding it but as a package she was lacking.

So I backburnered the 400 and bought myself a race-tuned badass 1986 FZ600. After a year of that bike I bought a TL1000S. My TL1000S is now for sale, though, so I can buy some photography stuff for my fiance. I'm picking up a bike that's more "pillion friendly" so she can ride with me, too.

But I've still got this hopped up XS400 motor sitting in my garage...what to do with her...hmmmmmmmm...

Friend of mine in Houston has an orange one. They're a generic chinabike...a CBR knock-off. Comes with an 8hp 125cc engine. I'm going to gut the SOB and cram my 400 in her, along with some 17" wheels, a showa rear suspension, and some real brakes.

Not particularly XS/XJ stuff aside the motor, but I thought I'd share my project anyway.

That thing looks like a Triuph Daytona 600. The kick start is just strange though.

When you start cutting, take lots of pictures. I want to see this thing when you're done.

oh there'll be a lot of pics...though I'm using the build up yamaha twin in mine, I'll be sticking GS500 and EX500 blocks in others to sell. I'm also running 125, 250, and 500 cc 2-strokes for race bikes...they'll be really light...in the 225lns area for the 125 and put down 44hp.
