So...I just bought a maxim XJ700 a little while ago and I had it running on three cylinders. I took the carbs off but did not take them off the rail that holds them together. I took them apart as much as I could without taking them off the rail thing, I also did not remove any mixture or adjustment screws. When I cleaned them there was really nothing to do. The bowls were a little dirty but not much at all, and the top half of the carbs were spotless. I put them back on the bike and now it only runs on two cylinders. :?
Both cylinders were on the same coil so I tested the coil and it has very very strong spark. The two cylinders that are not firing are not getting fuel, I don't understand this because the carbs are spotless... So I replaced the fuel lines and cleaned the tank...they were also spotless and free of any debris. Am I looking at needing to rebuild my carbs? Or do i need to take all the mixture screws out and clean them and resync the carbs?  ...what do I really need to do?

Another quick question...where is my fuse box located? I looked under the seat and it was not there. I did find one fuse under that small removable panel that clips off, the one just below the seat on the left side, but that was all that was there. I am wondering where the other fuses are?

You've only done half the work for cleaning the carbs. You also needed to pull all the idle mixture screws and the jets out, and adjust the float level.

Fuses are located under the indicator lamp cover (between the tach & speedo)

Did you end up cleaning the carbs completely or something else?
