On Friday I went to Shannonville to take the sidecar school. Did some laps on the skid pad which qualified me for my licence, then on Saturday got to go out on the track for 4 practice laps on an F2 rig piloted by Craig Barr. Man what a rush! I've still got a shit eating grin on my face.
Here's a couple of pics of me and Craig on his rig.

I love watching those guys on the sidehacks. Don't know if I am brave enough to be a monkey though. Too cool maxim-x.

Had a chance to do that back in the late sixties and early seventies up at Mosport Ontario. Only there where no training schools, you just climb on and went for the ride. Sort of.

Hey, you're never too old to try something new. I started racing Vintage solos when I was 48 (see Avatar). Now I'm trying sidecars and I'll be 55 next birthday.
I'd rather try something new and find I don't like it or fail than look back in years to come and think....."I wonder if I could have done it"?
    But that's just me.
    Just sayin'

Welllll, so much for my first ride. I just found out that Gord won't have his rig ready in time so it's spectating and volunteering at the track.
Got the Bandit all fixed up to ride there for the weekend too (needed to be fixed anyway) but I think I'll just cage it down on Saturday and do the other stuff on Sunday. Bummer man!!!!!!!
Ankle needs more time for recovery anyway.

I used to race back in the 70's and most non-racers called us nuts. We however knew who the REAL crazy guys were....the HACKERS!! I congratulate you on owning a set of big brass ones!

155mph in a sweeping turn in the rain with intentionally letting the rear slide out to steer the bike...I was ok with that....putting my life in the hands of someone else who is trying to win a race? Naw, no way...survival instinct was too strong

Racing at any level, in any capacity is a blast though and it really doesn't matter if you're a solo rider, a hacker, or even a wrench on a team, it's a blast....enjoy!!

Well today we had round two of our series, 2 wins and a 2nd when we made a miscalculation and didn't give ourselves time to get past the guy leading

I've been doing it 10 years now and only been off the back twice, one of those (this year) cost me a broken arm and a slab of beer

Highest finish 2nd Nationally in the 2010 season 5 rounds over 5 different tracks, 3 races per round

He needs you on it to finish and win so most riders wont do dumb shit and you soon learn which ones to avoid

This is a link to an onboard camera on our outfit at the Wanganui street race

    Hey Kick
That's a nice track for the bloke in the chair, only one short left hander so not a lot of jumping about. Racing through a town like that reminds me of the TT on the I.O.M.
Thanks for the link, I really enjoyed it!

 It's not as nice as you may think think, lots of hard acceleration and braking with no real places to "have a rest" normally 8-10 lap races at under a minute a lap

It is called the cemetery circuit as it goes through the middle of one and is run every boxing day and has been for 50 years

Hey Kick, just got back from the races. Great finals toay with the three wheel mob. The one fella with the #1 plate had to start at the back of the feild of 8 rigs as he fried his clutch in qualifying yesterday. Long story short, finished 2nd and was on out by .45 seconds at the line, and that was because he went in too fast on the last corner of the last lap and wound up the rear for just a split second! Brilliant finish and great racing by all involved!
I believe some of the lads had cameras, so if they post up any links I'll put them up here.

    Cheers, Graham

What about when things turn to custard, we had a swinger fall off the outfit in front of us on Saturday, it was quite entertaining (they're swingers here not monkeys)

Those flips were nasty to watch, must have had top of the line fuel cells, not one of them sparked up. Hope the swinger was alright.

Yeah he was fine, owes beer though, standard fine of one slab for falling off

Ok best onboard video I have seen for some time showing top class passengers, both the leading outfit and the chasing one are ex world champions, I get tired just watching it
