I got the neddle valve from here put them in and the carbs were flodding . i touight i didnt set the float height correctly but i tried it 3 times and still no go. I have checked all the floats to make sure that they werent busted they all float good . The only think i can think of is that the floats are sticking this bike was last run in 2003 so you can just imagine the condition of the carbs. I am thinking of getting new floats but before i want to ask a question . If you put the bike on prime will the preshure in the tank cause the neddle valves to pop ? I am thinking no but i could be wrong .

I would think not. But if the bike was sitting that long, it is probably time to get now floats. You can try pressing in the needle and spray some carb cleaner and opening and closing the needle on the valve. Then lightly oil it.

So you know it runs. Now go through the rest of the bike and make sure it is safe and road worthy.

    After 7 years of sitting!!
    Tires: deffinate replacement!
Brakes: Pads, shoes, lines replace. M/C, caliper rebuild.
Fuel & Intake system: Tank cleaned, Valves adjusted, Carbs cleaned, synched & tuned
Suspension: Steering head, Swingarm, Wheel bearings adjusted/replaced.
Ignition: Plugs, caps replace. Coils, wires tested.
Electrical: starter, alt/gen brushes replace. wiring connections cleaned, Fuse block replace!!

This is the absolute minimum that should be done to consider the bike rideable. After going through that list you should have found/fixed any other little bugs that would result in a roadside repair/rescue.

thnx will keep that in mind I alredy have the brakes on order and the carbs are all done except sync. im wating for the electronic sync from the shop to come in.

Will add the others on the to do list . I know I need a valve cover gasket because this one leeks . Are thoes "shim under buket "or "regular screw adjuster" type of valves ?

    Thanks

The Xj uses the Bucket/Shim for valve adjustment. You will need to get that done before trying to do the vaccum sync, and colortune on the carbs. Out of spec valves will make it nearly impossible to get the carbs properly tuned.
