Things seem to be moving along on my new to me Seca 550....The only logs in the road have been in the form of....RUST...That comes from being left outside to the Michigan weather for the better part of 3 yrs......Frozen fork plugs are making the Progressive springs wait till they are unfroze to replace, all the hardware is either new stainless or been scarfed from my collection of GSXR hardware, ALL of the phillips head/Posi drive fasteners are yesterdays news as most of them requires vise grips or just plain snapped off when being removed.
    The other major items were;
6 snapped off exhaust studs in the head......Tried all the procedures, its a shop job, now I have a head to work this winter. Interesting exhaust ports in these things....Have to see what the flow bench reveals.New head from Ebay complete w/cams & cover on the way & cost what a set of valve shims would be......
1 knackered carb...someone seems to have adjusted the left outside carb idle mix adjusting with a screw hammer(?)...well you get the drift.....Have to dig up a body or.......a set of CRs are looking good....can get them in 26 mm too....hmmmmm($)....got the bike for free, so.....

    Here it is so far.......

Wanted Avons...ended up with Dunlops......Progressive shocks went right on but the springs do seem a bit soft, Krause Racing made me a pair of 520 sprockets, Dicks Cycle Racer 1 bars, Fastline 2.5 Brakeline, Ferodo pads and a new caliper should help sort the brake.Maybe a different rotor as there is only one of them and seems as whats there could be improved upon. New shoes for the rear too. Hella bulb to replace the stock unit, new clutch cable, sealed battery & a whole of misc thinngies were pulled off/out of the GSXR parts collection......Reworked the seat from a sofa cushion ( not stock) to what felt right to me but still have to finish the recover process ( engines, fabrication & machine work, no prob. Seat reworking....errr...ummm...I'm a learnin as I go)
I usually make my pipes as off the shelf is ...well...off the shelf. Never seems to ever tuck in as it should and a good exhaust system cost lots of $s...as it should. Not an easy thing to do, takes a LOT of time & all the bits and pipe is getting rather pricey nowadays.....But....that is something I enjoy doing.
Basic black Krylon BBQ paint hand rubbed between coats w/shop rag will do for now. Waxed to a hi gloss with a can of what is laying about will complete the package if the sun ever comes back out this summer.....

Still a lot to do, but progress is being made....

    Now , for the questions.......

There seem to be Euro pegs along w/brake lever and shifter that were made for the 550s
    like this.....

Where to get........UK Bay?..Hard to get?....Thinkin someone here would know

#2......Are FZR 600 brake rotors the same offset and bolt pattern as the 550 Seca Rotor/wheel flange? 298mm dia is the same.....just wondering if anyone knew.....

Well, thats bout enough for now. This forum has been a GREAT help so far. Great place to research, LOTS of very good threads & solid information....and to that I want to say Thanks to all that have added to the content............

    Later...........Bart

Thanks......looked this morn and found some of it listed ( too late to bid) and a couple of breakers that had a 550 they are breaking for spares. They both ship worldwide so should just be a matter of connecting & collecting........... :D

Lots done , more to do. latest addition were clocks from a XS 750. Lots nicer than the stock one that came on it...pre fed speedo w/ 12000 rpm tac. Wiring crossed over with a bit of effort and was able to retain the later push in bulbs/std wire harness...GSXR clutch release/ adjuster worked out the same & clutch /start switch was a plug in on the stock harness connector....even took the standard lever....Master from a F model oil boiler will replace the china knock off std master that came with the bike....gonna keep the go kart caliper for now, R1 monoblock on the shelf for later if needed. FZR rotor looks to be a straight away swap.....will find out later tonight....Progressive Supension springs and Race Tech Gold valves ready to go when I get the fork tubes sorted.....Pipe still needs a bit of working....EGT needs to be welded in, springs for the head pipes and a balance tube between 2&3 cylinders....6" seperator is installed in the collector to pair up 1&2/3&4 cylinders. Rear pipe mount almost done...will be rubber isolated/ removable.Have a Vortex cone for the can, gonna work with that and see how it works out...can couple that with a straight tru non louvered pipe for quiet....May tweek the mid-pipe to tuck in/up a bit more, have to get the swinger sorted first.

FZR & Radian swingarm are kicking about at present....FZR will need shock mounts attached, Radian is straight away swap ( looks to be anyway.....we shall see) have not decided which one will be used.Either one of them has to be a bit stiffer than the oem pickle fork......Alloy brake stay (Busa) & cable will replace the oem items. Works Performance 13.5 steel trackers w/ dual springs are going to replace the Progressive units...Fork lock will be reduced and a adj steering damper added.....

Not real big on plastic or any not needed items....wiring was gutted to the basics, alloy wiring tray and battery box are almost finished. Replaced the battery with a sealed unit that was listed for a R6......Just under 5lbs and much more compact........Using late GSXR V stacks for now ( on the shelf), may make adapters for RS stacks as that will allow different lengths to be used to tune with...Alloy air box should work out with GSXR V stacks, fabing up a bit different version of what I made for one of my past Oil Boilers...Should work out pretty slick with how the XJ frame is layed out..........Plastic chain guard had to go, should have the metal one done tonight....

Ended up relocating the std peg hangers and using Slabby foot pegs. Had to shorten the brake and shift levers...Relocated the horn, need to mount the F model Oil boiler short turn signals, replace the std fasteners with stainless where they can be applied and of course the never ending war on any type of phillips head fastener that is ran across....Have been drilling for lock wire where necesary.....

Thats about it for now.......amazing that what started as a tyre /fluid change has turned into a full 30 year overhaul............. .....The upside it is shaping up into a nice all round street bike and allowing me to click up another notch on my 7/11 build..............
