Ok guys, I just realized I have an 18" back wheel on my Maxim. I need to get new rear shoes but Im not sure if the drum has been changed?

This bike has had a couple weird features like this. I really believe the odo is showing correct mileage so Im not sure why it had the wheel swapped. Im glad its an 18 and not a 16, now how do I tell what shoes I need? What else would have been swapped to use the 18?

Also my front rotors have slots in them, is that normal for a Maxim?

    Thanks!

lotsa yall max guys steal my seca wheel ;) me, I've been considering going the other way.

pretty sure the hubs and all are identical. it's a straight across swap.
Someone pipe up if I seem to be blowing smoke, pretty sure I am. Just that I've never read anything about it NOT being a straight swap.

Yes. The 18 inch Seca wheel swap for the 16 inch Maxim wheel is a fairly common mod to try to reduce the highway cruse rpm. Everything points to a direct swap between the two. Both 750 seca/maxim use the same brake shoe kit.

Make sure to remove the ridge from the brake shoe dust on the edge of the drum. This has been know to cause problems with fitting the new shoes back in place.

Ok just out of curiousity, how much difference in overall height is there between the 2 wheels? I imagine it must be a very minor difference in cruise RPM.

I thought I read that Virago wheels interchange also but have a different size drum (bigger?)

Ill have to measure the drum I swear it looks like its bigger than the drums in pictures I found on google and here ...

Same question here. I have a 700N not an X, but there is very little (really, zero) clearance for a bigger tire in there, unless you went with a narrower tire, but the one that goes on there is already on the narrow side.

my bike has a kenda challenger 130/90-19 and it just barely clears the swinger. The tire feels solid however so im happy with it. wish I could find another set of Kendas like these
