Going back to the air box on my new 750 got it back in fine but am know having trouble getting my carbs back on. So if any one could let me know the best way to go about reinstalling the carbs that would be a big help, pics would all so be good.

    Thanks

If ya didn't get them on yet. Here is what I did to my 900 conversion. I put a small amount of engine lube around the inner part of the rubber gromments. Then slide in carbs ,slowly push one side partly in. Then put somethin in on the side you just put in. go to the other side an line the rest up then used a peice of wood . push this one all the way in, go back to other side push it all the way in. I had to do this a number of times being this motor sat for a long time.

Yep, Kwiski pretty much said it all right there. It can be a enormous pain. I felt that it was easy to sit in front of the bike and pull them towards me to get them on.

I don't know of any easy way to do it. Some people have had better luck pushing the air box boots into the air box, then reaching into the air box and pushing them onto the carb inlets once the carbs are in place; probably with a bit of pulling at them from the outside, as well, to get them seated properly in the air box. Slender hands, with long fingers, helps for this approach.

Otherwise, it's more a matter of just lubing the edges of things up a bit, and pushing really hard to get the rack into place, with a bit of work to push or pull the lips of the boots over the inlets. It can take quite a bit of force, and back and forth pressure, to seat the rack in the carb holders. One of the guys on the forum here made a little tool to reach in and pull the boot lips over the inlets - I think it's on the "home made tools" thread.

my 650 ive done like 50 times in the last week for trying to diagnose problems... as long as all the hold downs are loose, you should be able to lube, like said, and slide them in.... i then tighten them in so they dont move.... now the easiest way to get the air box boots on are to slide them between box and carbs, slide the carb end on first, line up that tab that the air box side slides into, and use your finger to evenly press the boot into the air box. i can have a set of carbs out, and back in in less than 20 minutes.

i had one time where the carbs didnt want to slide into the motor, so i got a 3rd hand and a ratchet strap. held the carbs straight with my two hands while sitting on the bike, and the buddy ratchets it until they plop in with ease.
