I got the bike running good, set the floats, vac synced the carbs, I haven't checked valve clearances because the bike only has 5000 miles on it and I am pretty sure it wont need it. Maybe i will do it anyways. But I have a situation where after I ride the bike for a little bit, the idle starts to creep up. Then when I get home, all i have to do is turn the idle down and it runs fine again. Has anybody else ever had an issue similar to this? Some info would be great, that is the last thing till this things is street worthy. Well that and a rear brake check is in order definately.

    Thanks
    Nick

That's probably air getting in, check carb boots (carb to mill), caps on vac'spigots & throttle shaft seals.

I got new carb boots but the caps on the boots seemed pretty crispy, I will replace those and hope I don't have to do throttle shaft seals. Also, I don't have any clamps on the air filter boots I should probably get some of those.

I had the same thing with the caps, they were hard, but when they got hot they let in air.
BTW, because the boots are new doesn't mean they are sealing properly.

Yeah, I noticed it more when it gets hot too. I had a suspicion that those were bad. Especially because the ends are really fat and the bottoms are skinny. They are probably stock.

WRONG!!! Initial check was to have been done at 3000 miles and if it was never done, I can about guarantee you that you've got a few (if not all) tight valves. The initial check is/was the most important, as the motor "beds" in during the first few thousand miles. My '83 had 7100 miles when I got it, untouched, and all 8 were tight.

Check the valve clearances NOW before you end up damaging a low-mileage motor! Don't talk yourself out of it because it seems difficult.
