Not XJ related.. pertains to anything with a chain I guess. Not sure where to post this. But anyway.. I got ahold of an old 4 wheeler that has been sitting for years. I got it running but the chain is rusted really bad.. I mean to the point it has kinks and stuff. So I took it off and soaked it in oil which helped but theres still links that wont move.. is there any way anyone knows of to free this up or will I have to buy a new chain?

Use a good penitating oil not wd40 but a high end oil. Let soak for days and work out the kinks as it soaks. The best fix is buy a new one. The old chain may last a day or a year or two but you don't want to be out on a trail miles from home and have it snap because you saved a few dollers.

Would you rather take the 4-Wheeler out for a spin ... and, ride it back home?

Or, ... go for a ride and push it back home?

I'd just replace the chain and sprockets and call it a day...

If it has seized up in sections with kinks, replace it. Cheap insurance.

A chain is not a place you want to cut costs. A thrown chain is not just an inconvenience that leaves you pushing the quad back but is also a good way to bust up a crank case. Cracked cases are no fun. Also unless the sprockets are in great shape replace them too, worn sprockets will wear out a new chain quickly.

Another thing, what type of quad did you pick up :) ?

pound it flat, put it on and go ride it around the yard a little bit and have some fun
it's going to stretch a lot, and it will keep stretching till you get tired of tightening it and buy a new one
