All I can find for the series 12 shock and HD Black spring is for the maxim X, will this one work for the non-X model? Or which one is it?

    Thanks everyone!

Re: help finding the model # of a progressive suspension- xj

    Hi everyone,

So, chacal figured it out for me.

And I thought I would post what he told me so we can have it as a future reference the next time someone has the same problem.

"The same shocks as will fit the 700-X will also fit your 700 non-X. The X-shocks are just a little bit stiffer ("heavy-duty") than the non-X, but it's really a meaningless difference, given the large range of adjustability in them. The two bikes weigh the same, and that's really the only imortant parameter."

    Thanks again everyone.

Can you post a pic or a link to the shock you're talking about? I'm a better visual learner. [IMG]

Sure, here is a link to the website:
    http://www.progressivesuspension.com/me ... index.html

If you go to the "what fits my bike" and input the YEAR: 1985 MAKE: Yamaha, you will see under MODEL it only lists XJ700X Maxim.
