Tank is painted already (timing issue)
Petcock and fuel sender holes sealed with block off gaskets from xjforever
    No gas cap installed yet

Which hole would be best to have open for cleaning, draining and internal sealing ?

When I did my last tank I poured everything into the fill hole and drained from the petcock EXCEPT the plastic coating... I poured that in the filler and rolled it around until there was very little left, then I let it rest on the side without the petcock.

When you figure out an easy straightforward way to get everything out of a Yamaha gas tank, you be sure to share.

I can give you big long list of methods that DON'T work very well.

I agree with Rob. If I remember right, the idea with the sealer is that it's pretty close to the right amount for the tank. I think I had a small amount extra that I drained from the petcock hole. You can't get it out of the fill hole because of the lip that goes around it on the inside. All in all, it's really hard to get everything out. Since the solvents are usually petroleum, you can let them dry before doing the sealer. When there's water in the tank later on, good luck. I usually shake it with the petcock off, and then final rinse with gas, if you don't mind getting gas everywhere.

I finally resorted to building a long thin suction tube for my shop vac. For final drying I rinse the inside with denatured ("solvent") alcohol and then jam the shop vac hose against the fuel filler hole, tape it in place, prop up the tank so the petcock and sending unit holes aren't obstructed, and run it on "BLOW" until it's dry inside.
