So, is that what they mean when they say, "God be with you"?

Keep in mind, we share the road with EVERYONE. The person ahead of you could be criminally insane and just passing them will set them off into a super rage.
Iv'e had a similar experience last week and can honestly say it was f'n scary.

From now on if I even get a gut feeling that someone ahead of me MIGHT act out in such a way that could be dangerous.. the plan is to stay back till they turn off or take a alternate route.

Currently I am looking for a cam for the bike.

Anyone know how this ends? The youtube comments while hilarious don't lend too much additional info. You can tell who has never ridden a bike by them trying to crucify the 1st rider for passing a double yellow on a country road, like that was the real crime.

I've got a little story like this. First time I took the seca out went riding with 2 stunt bikers. There was a car riding my ass for a couple miles, I tried speeding up and putting some distance between us and they kept closing the gap real quick. So the other two guys told me to go ahead of them and they decided to mess with this girl behind the wheel. Goin slow, not letting her pass, etc. they eventUally let her by and she FLEW ahead of them, where I was, and pretty much ran me on to the shoulder. my first encounter with swerving and some defensive maneuvering. apparently I did good, because I'm still alive. the other guys saw this, got pissed.

then they wave me back to get some distance, and in an awesome coordinated move they both FLEW up and kicked her side mirrors. the passenger mirror just folded up, but the driver side actually broke OFF. then they immediately slow up real fast, and dipped out on a side road.

Keep in mind, this is my first time on a motorcycle out in traffic.

I know we need to look out for each other, but this was a little excessive. I will recognize the fact that these guys looked out for me, and could have died in the process though.

Nd let's face it, from where I was just watching, and the fact that no one got hurt. it was BAD ASS.

The red pickup truck didn't try to kill anyone; the brainless jackass behind the wheel did.

When we're out there on two wheels, the ONLY defense we have against ANYTHING is AVOIDANCE. Be it an inattentive texting twenty-something or a deranged neanderthal; getting away/staying away is the ONLY defense.

The lead bike could have pulled to the side quickly and stopped even more quickly, executing what's known as a "reverse pass." By the time the truck, physically unable to stop as quickly (nor turn around as quickly) got fully stopped and turned around, both bikes could have been long gone in a different direction.

That would have been my reaction to the situation.

@Durk there is a follow up to that video, explaining some things, speeds etc, and in one of the comments it's said that the guy (Military/ex military) is in jail awaiting trial.

Here's the link to the follow up, which was shot the following weekend to the incident

And Fitz, I wholeheartedly agree with every word you said.

I myself have suffered similarly to what happened, only my aggresser was actually parked up at the side of the road, but the moment I passed him, he immediately pulled out, as to give chase to me, I noticed him getting closer and closer to us (I had a pillion on board) as we approached a roundabout, until he must have been less than a foot from my back end (he was in a 4x4), I grabbed hold of my passengers hand and hit her hand on my side, trying to tell her to hold on, which she did. One of the exits from the roundabout, the one I was taking, was clear, and lead onto a duel carriageway, so as I straightened up with this moron still around only a foot away from my passengers back, I dropped down a gear and red lined the bike up until fifth gear, I left this guy for dust, but unfortunately the road ahead had an 18 wheeler overtaking another 18 wheeler

I think these guys could see what was happening, as the overtaking one quickly dropped back to give me a clear road, as the twat was starting to catch up with us again, but instead of racing off again, I pulled in front of the semi, then dropped onto the hard shoulder, as there was a junction I could get off approaching, the 18 wheelers did there overtaking act again to slow this guy down a little, and so he couldn't see where I was, They finally let him past after I pulled off the junction, and they were nearly past it, but too far past for him to pull off after us.

This was the second time that same day this nutter had tried to have me off the bike, only this time, I got his number, and reported him to the police, who told me that the 4x4 had been reported stolen the night before, and that I was the 5th biker that day that he'd try to have off the road.

    IC, thanks for the updates.
When the truck swerved over the lead guy should have just braked and not forced the pass.
But in the big scheme of things, is it safer to pass when safe on a double yellow or ride behind a big truck like that, that blocks your view of the road ahead? I'd make that pass every time, I wouldn't want to get stuck behind a big truck.

I don't really think there's was enough time when he was passing to do anything other than keep going or get hit.

This may not be popular, but I need to say it.
The guy in the truck was wrong, to a massive degree.
But, the guys on the bikes were wrong, also. Just because we ride too doesn't mean that we should be blind to that. I'm not going to look through the whole video and over 2000 posts to try to find out what the speed limit is, but it looks like they were going too fast, and the illegal passing is just plain indefensible. IMO, it gives bikes a bad rap if you are speeding and passing like that. Just because a road is fun to ride it doesn't make it a personal racetrack. If you lived on that road, would you want them racing up and down like that? Again, it does not justify vigilante truck attacks, that guy needs to be corrected big time.

Yes the bikers were wrong too; both in the initial "offense" but also in their "carrying on" of the chase. Once the lead bike realized this nutball was chasing him, he could have neatly executed the aforementioned "reverse pass" and the pair of them could have beat feet outta there.

Which, like I said, is what I would have done.

Maybe I just don't have the riding experience/confidence yet, but I don't know if I'd have the courage to try that maneuver with a truck riding my behind. I'd be afraid of him hittin me. But coming from you, it's something I'll definately keep in mind and maybe even practice sometime.

I agree. If the guy tried to run me off the road, I'm staying away from him. The only one continuing the chase was the truck. The bike was being chased, and running.

Yeah, gotta agree. Trying any other maneuver sounds nice, but I think he did the right thing by getting some distance between he and this asshole truck driver. Hope someone gives this dick a curb job, provided he still HAS any teeth in his head to knock in!

I think that stopping at a stop sign off to the side was the perfect thing to do.

I probably would have gotten off the Bike and gotten away from it. If the dude was crazy enough to try to run him off the road he might be crazy enough to take the bike out on the side of the road.

Obviously in the case of this, the first rider would have felt a lot of fear from almost being physical pushed off the road and killed. Do you really believe he felt he could stop without having the truck plow into him from behind? This isnt just riding someone's ass, this was someone trying to physically harm him. Why would he stop to risk even greater injury?

Motorcyclist have always been hated by some. In Arizona, I know ranchers used to string wire (including barb wire) across roads at neck level to yank riders off their bikes

Makes you think of Easy Rider...

A bike can get onto a wide shoulder (or even the wrong lane) and be hard on the binders before the other guy even realizes the bike is disappearing in his rearview.

I'm speaking from raw experience here; thankfully I've only had to use the tactic twice in my life and only once on a bike. The lead bike knew his buddy was right behind the truck so there were two bikers vs. only one jerk; and many opportunities to stop and/or evade went flashing by. This particular episode could have had a much worse outcome. Adrenaline overruled clear thought, that much is obvious.

And that, gentlemen, is what we HAVE to keep from allowing to happen to us. Thinking clearly will overcome blind stupid rage every time. The trick is to NOT get caught in the same mindset as the jackass. Admittedly, not easy sometimes. But WE gotta STAY COOL. Work on it.

I'm lost as to why everyone either believes that going faster or braking out the evasive maneuvers is the answer... I've always been taught that anytime an idiot starts trailing you.... Slow down... Or stop... I'd be more afraid of wiping out @ 60+ mph than any face to face with the byproduct of a deprived set of siblings...

My supervisor showed me this video, he rides on that road all the time, and wanted to take me on it to get me used to taking turns, some of the residents were known to toss gravel out into the road and blow fresh grass clippings from their yards too because of bikes tearing ass around the bends. He said he thought he knew the lead rider but the video was too grainy. If this is how Kentucky people act I'm keeping my a$$ in Ohio when I ride, of course the 2 riders brought it on themselves.

I would agree if it's a random case of someone following too aggressively. But within the context of this situation, the preceding incident would have to make me seriously consider if the dude was only trying to scare me VS really wanting to hit me intentionally. (Watching that video again, I'm thinking that if the guy in the truck had cut harder to the left he could have taken the bike out if he really wanted to. Plus he had his chance to mow the bike down at the stop sign and didn't do it.)

The bikers were in full riding gear and it was two against one. Would not have hesitated to rush the assbag truck driver, crow bar or not. At best he would have got one shot in. After that it would have been nighty nite, assbag.

Bottom line is it's too bad there are people even like this.

Not worth taking a chance that some asshole is crazy enough to whip out a gun. you just don't know what you're dealing with, many times, out there. I personally don't wish to become a front page article as a victim of road rage.

since the pass was at about 70 MPH, I don't see the "reverse pass" working right away, but a good blast of speed to gain a safe margin, then hard brakes and turn in a driveway would have diffused the situation.

The following rider didn't need to tail so close - just get the tag. Made for a good show.

NO WAY! The reverse pass is a great maneuver for the everyday driver who ignorantly rides your ass. I have used it on numerous occasions. It is however a horrible technique to use evasively! It would have been a terrible idea to stop in front of the truck and put himself in an entirely defenseless position. Weather the truck intended to run him off the road or just block the pass, it is evident that his behavior was unpredictable. That being said, trying to stop ahead/adjacent would have carried the most risk.

Furthermore, you must consider the trucks reaction to the reverse pass. Given the trucks erratic driving, I'd bet that he too would respond by possibly swerving at the lead bike. His chances of making contact would be far greater then, weather he intended to or not. A moving target is always harder to hit!

Maybe he doesn't swerve. Maybe, he too, brakes aggressively. The lead bike certainly would not have signaled to execute the reverse pass so the trucks braking would also have been unpredictable. Thereby leaving the trailing bike in a hairy situation... not cool!

I believe he did the right thing. He clearly knew the road so separating himself from his aggressor was a good call in my book. He certainly didn't choose the safest place to dismount at the end but even then he could have been out of harms way.

There is no argument for "clear thought vs adrenaline" here. The entire idea of clear thought is subjective at best. As you stated, one man's stupid rage is easily perceived as an others clear thought. Its contradictory to say "Thinking clearly will overcome blind stupid rage every time." after claiming that "Adrenaline overruled clear thought" when the outcome was favorable. You have then attributed the beneficial results to what you believe to be the lessor of two actions.

Wish I'd seen this video and thread on my long trip to Florida last month! LOTS of reading and entertainment. Little scary. I was in a very small car once and tried to pass a large SUV, legally, but didn't have the power to do it. As I ducked back in behind him he slammed on his brakes. There was nothing in front of him. I reacted quickly, but he had anti-lock brakes and I had old tires. (Just bought the car). The light hit was considered MY fault due to state law but the officer wrote "Clear case of road rage on the SUV's part" on the report. Point is, you never know what someone else is thinking in their vehicle. Lots of space is your friend!
