    Hi all -

Just bought some highway bars to put on my 82 Maxim and about gave myself a hournea trying to get the bolts off.

I couldn't get the bolt off the bottom-corner. It looks like the bolt goes through the engine...

    Any advice??
    Cory

Get a helper to steady the bike.
Spray some WD-40 on the threads.
    Use a 6-Point Box or 6-Point Socket.
Use some persuasion on the wrench or breaker bar handle.
    Heat.
Cut a bias slice across the flat of the hex nut and break it off.
Bet someone a beer they can't do it.
Let your little sister try it.

What do you mean when you say "cut a bias slice across the flat of the hex nut and break it off"

Using a "Cut-Off Disc" in your Dremel Tool ... cut a diagonal slice across the flat on the nut ... as close to all the way through it as you can get.

Extreme torque on the nut should break it open and free.
    No?
Cold chisel pop-it at the bias cut.
    No?
Make another slice and knock-out the fragment.
Peel-off the rusted-on remaining portion of the nut with a small pipe wrench.
    No?
Time to mix gases and quit fooling around with it!

PB penetrating catalyst is the best stuff I've ever seen for breaking loose frozen bolts, even on my 40 year old car. It's available at most autoparts stores and wallymart, spray it and let it sit awhile, almost guanranteed it'll break loose later.

I like the betting a friend a beer idea... I tried WD-40... I'm trying to track down a psneumatic wrench to get this mutha off...

I'll also look into the PB Catalyst stuff too.
