My gas cap doesn't seal much. Last night I noticed gas spatter on the top of the tank after a ride, with about half a tank of gas left. I'm pretty sure either the cap or lock has been replaced, the key doesn't match the ignition or seat lock. Looking at Chacal's catalog, looks like I would need a sealing gasket, O rings and a ball valve to rebuild the cap. Am I on the right track, and have I left anything out?

That, and maybe the screws/lockwashers to hold the latch on, depending on how used, bruised and abused they are. Also good to have would be the silicone grease and perhaps some graphite.

Chacal and I have worked up a walkthrough for overhauling the gas cap. See if it helps any.

Excellent job on the walkthrough. I wish I had seen that before I did mine; I was taking some pictures just in case...

The cap on my Seca is a bit different. In practical terms the biggest difference is the vent valve ball--mine is on the other side, and has a retaining collar pressed into the cap.

The side where yours has a ball is a rubberish plug-I almost poked through it and added a ball, before I realized the other side still had a ball.

In my case, I'm pretty sure that the sealing ring was my major problem--It looked OK, but dropped in place with no resistance. The new one is a press fit

(anyone feel free to use these pics if they are useful)
