wire connected to headlight

82 maxim 750
i replaced the headlight with a 9003
on the three wire connector that goes to the bulb i have two wires with female barrel connectors on them.
does anybody know what they could or would go to.

What color are the wires?

Factory or add-on?

 

Plug them into the same color wires that match the connectors. They must be the leads running to your bright indicator? Just my guess.

 

well i know they are factory, the ends look the same with rubber boot like the other ones going to the sig lights or the brake fluid level sensor
not sure bout color but i'll check

 

green with red stripe
yellow with green stripe

 

there are no loose plugs in the light can.
and the high and low beam work fine by switch and the small aux light works by its switch that is under the start button
and the high beem indicator works

 

They both look like they go to the computerized monitor for "HEAD" to bring that up if your headlight goes out. That's looking at the XJ750J diagram in my Yamaha manual. They are 2 seperate wires going to that computer monitor that are seperate from the 2 main molex large plugs that mainly go to it.

wonder why it dont trip the warning light

i didnt see anything not plugged in the bucket

maybe i'll try the bulb unplugged and start the bike and see if the warning light comes on for it.

it will have to wait till tomorrow though

 

alrighty then, well i unplugged the head light and started the bike and sure enough the "head" display came up and the red light flashed. as soon as i plugged it in the warning lights went out. so those two wires dont go to the comp.
i was thinking maybe they went to a fog light option, if it was offered....

anyone have any ideas what they could go to

 

Combo front signal light wiring???

The front amber lights can come on with the Headlight ... blink as signals; too.

Thats my guess ... given the Color Code.

There'd be three wires going through the signal light stalk.

 

mine has the same thing, there is nowhere to plug them in
one is hot on low the other on high
just a little bonus i guess

 

sounds like a good place to wire in a SPARE garage door opener. Most are 12 volts. All one would have to do to open the garage door when they get home is flash the high beams and up comes the door. I may just have to try this.

Does your Maxim 750 have the round main headlight without the extra auxilary head light which is below the main rectangular headlight on other maxim 750's?

I always found it interesting some 750's we're made with 2 different headlight setups, I have an original Maxim 750 brochure and it has a round headlight. But I've seen in person far more rectangular dual headlight setups running around.

If you have the round headlight, those extra socket locations are probably for the auxilary headlight that particular bike didn't come with, but same bike and I'm sure they put the same wiring harness in each. But then again they'd be to the seperate aux. switch and not tied directly to the main leadlight power, Hummm, strange Just a thought.

 

Don't quote me on this but I think the dual setup was mainly on the Seca and the round was the Maxim.

But in saying that I did notice the 750 Maxim brochure on the XJCD had the 82 model maxim with the rectangular and aux light as well.


And the XJ750E brochure also shows the seca with both round and rectangle lights.

But, the key is the age of the bike and never knowing what the PO might have swapped over.

 

My 81 has 2 spare wires in the bucket. I was told these were put there for the fairing if installed.
