I just wanted to thank everyone on the forums for helping a newb out so much. I got the bike back together and it starts like a champ. got problems still, but it's very satisfying to hear that sucker run and rev.

Next up: stop petcock leak, then get it to idle with the choke off, right now, it dies as soon as the choke is closed.

Way to go getting er started.
Sounds like you still have to go through those carbs though.
Refering to the choke thing, since it's an enrichment type choking system.

The way it works is to add extra fuel, with yours if it wont idle without, I'd suspect that the fuel circuit has some pluged jets or something in it.

Remember to get the old digital camera and the manual out when you get into those carbs. Those pictures and notes are worth a million of these strings.

    Good Luck

Decided to go with the Z1 Enterprises replacement petcock rather than deal with problems people seem to have rebuilding the old ones. Sounded like the thing to do.

As soon as mine starts leaking again I'm doing the same thing.
If I can't remember to open and close a petcock.... I ought to be shot.

Don't forget you have to drill out the tank opening to use the replacement "real" petcock. If you magnetize your drill bit or dremel bit before drilling/grinding, you'll capture most of the metal bits.

I've made up a grinding/drilling guideplate that allow you to drill/dremel the tank opening without risking messing up the threads on the adapter plate....this won't make any sense to you until you have the petcock adapter plate in your hands.....so write me if interested.

Along with what Chacal said, if you stick the flexable end of your magnetic pickup into the hole before you drill that will usually catch what the drill bit misses.
