yesturday I was riding the xj around the neighborhood. I stopped to adjust the idle (lower idle). After that, when i push started the bike it would go for a little bit and then die. I then proceeded to re adjust the idle, it didnt help. it finally got to the point to when push starting barely cranked the engine. What could have happened? what should i do next? The tank is full of gas and the fuel valve is set on the PRI setting, so the carbs are filled with fuel. Should I remove them so they wont get dirty?

PRI is only used to fill the carbs, after they have been off..
After that it should got to ON

On PRI... if you have a bad float valve... gas can laek through and start spilling into the head...... is it fills up on top of the pistons... the compressions rises so it wont want to turn over......

Of course then the gas will seep past the rings and into your oil .......
So do a sniff test of the oil to see if it reeks of gas......

hows your batt? leaving the valve set on prime may fill your crank case with gas if your carbs are not funct properly.

How exactly do you perform a "sniff" test?

It doesn't really reak of gasoline. And when I took the carbs out, i noticed that no fuel leaked. What else could be wrong??

Why are you push starting? If you've got a completely flat battery you wont have any voltage to work the ignition and you'll get no spark at all.

I'm push starting because the starter doesn't work ( it needs to be rebuilt). And no I haven't followed ricks guide to car cleaning, I'll definitely check that out!
