Hi all, just wanted to say hi. Bought my first real bike, an '82 XJ650 Seca, last week, and have been perusing these forums since. Looks like a nice community.

The bike's got some high miles, 33k, and needs a little lovin' to get it tuned and purring, but looks to be pretty well taken care of, always stored indoors, came with most of her records, and rides just fine for now. Body is pretty clean, just a bit of rust on the pipes to brush out.

I'm mechanically inclined but somewhat inexperienced, esp. with bikes. I've got a good garage and mindset to learn what I can, so think it will be a good winter of wrenching.

Fitz's valve guide will be first on list come the next rainy weekend, then work my way through, see if cant get her to idle a little better.

Got a nice picture of her I'll post as soon as I can figure out why I keep getting server errors when I try to add the attachment =/

Im south of you out west of Corvallis. I have a fair amount of experience with my 750 (which is for sale actually) and have a parts bike I'll soon be selling parts off of, so let me know if you find anything you need to replace. I'll see if I can help.

Boy, this is the kind of reply that makes coming to this forum such a great experience.
Lots of info and how to's, but even better a member that lives nearby and offers to help out.
Just like the guys that do the carb clinics at their home, kudos to you PTSenterprises for offering!

well I dont get to PDX all that often but anyone that brings me their bike to my shop finds out pretty quickly I have been known to work for beer and conversation.

(I kind of live out in the sticks, lol)

op: check out PNWriders.com and ride44.com if you are looking to meet up with other locals for rides and whatnot. Its a good way to find deals on gear as well

PTS - Nice looking 750 at a good price. If I'd been on this site and seen it a week and a half ago... well, ya never know.

Thanks for the offer, too. I feel good about the valves and cam, carb tuning might be another matter. Good to have resources if I get in over my head.

There were two up on Craigslist for a while. One had been there longer and I looked at before this one - it had been dropped a few times, and was in questionable condition all over, think it had been stored improperly for a few years without a proper resurrection.

This one, despite having more miles, was in much better shape, and between loving the Seca and getting eager to get on a bike while I still had a bit of riding weather left, I bit at 1300. Now that I've ridden it more, it needs a bit more tuning and wrenching than I'd originally suspected, making that maybe a bit too much money, but hey. It's a nice looking Seca, hasn't been mistreated, had original manual, sales paperwork and toolkit, and the freshly re-upholstered seat feels great on my butt.

Welcome from VA. Nice looking bike. With help from this forum, I am sure you can have her purring in no time. Be sure to check your brakes out, especially the rear for delamination.

nice, well I can appreciate wanting to get in a little riding before our BIZZARE Oregon summer was over.

(p.s. you could have bought MY 750 for $1300 and its ready to go as is, oh well)
