Muffler question for 85 XJ700 Maxim X

    I love my maxim but my exhaust and mufflers are angled right at my saddle bags, I want to straighten them but not sure if there's anything "Tricky" involved. Another question I have is my motorcycle is a little too loud for my taste, I've seen silencers but I don't know if they will fight my bike of if it's even worth the trouble. Any advance will be helpful.

    You could try some slip on's. Order or download in PDF the Dennis Kirk catelog, not that I buy much from them as they are a bit pricy compared to other sources. But what is great about their catelog is you can use it as a source of items, as they do have good listing of these older bikes under exhausts and other things to let you know what's available to fit something like and XJ650 or 750 or ? Once you have the make and part #, then go searching for the cheapest price supplier to get it from.

    The stock Maxim X exhaust is really not that loud at all, What is your definition of loud? Has it been previously modified (as in PO trying to remove baffles)?

    From what I can tell it's the stock pipes. I'm probably just use to how silent my 550 is compared to my 700. But frankly any noise is too much noise for me (Yeah I know, I'm weird.) I live by the phrase "Silent but Deadly". I checked out the website mentioned and they have no mufflers for this bike :-( oh well. I was wondering if it would be challenging to atleast straighten the pipes I have now so their straighter.
