My bike will start up fine, but then after I drive it for a while, even a few minutes, and turn it off, it won't start up again.

The headlight won't even come on.

Starter motor? The relay from the battery to the starter motor?

Fuses, side stand relay (if you have one), bad ground.

with the fusebox off, while in your driveway so you dont get stranded...... start the bike... and lightly tap the fuses with an open palm. these fuses even while looking clean tend to not conduct anymore.... if only yamaha would make a fuse that would last longer than 30 years!!!!!! jerks. lol. start there.

You may have found this out since this thread started, but in case you don't know; the head light only comes on when a relay gets voltage from the alternator, and that only happens when the engine fires up to spin the alt. faster than the starter. As far as the starting problem; I owned a 1982 650 maxim, and it would shut down while I was riding it! I found out that it was a sticky kick stand button, I took the rubber boot off and sprayed WD-40 on it and had no further problems with it.

Exactly what DOES it do when it "won't start up again?" (And as above, don't worry about the headlight that's normal.)

Does it not even spin the starter? Spin and no fire?
